Detox Diet Day 3

Post Birthday I usually have a mini melt down. To cheer myself up I get my teeth cleaned and promptly start bleaching them so they are super white. Since my birthday is in July I have a tan. But at the age of 38 finding new age spots is how I examine my tan--rather than looking at my tan lines. So besides feeling like an old whale I decide to do something about it....

#1 Tons of sunscreen. LA Roche? Have any of you tried this? It leaves a pasty white film all over my body so I look like a mummy. Vogue swears by this product. I've also tried Neutrogena 100spf with helio plex but somehow I am still too tan or worse--sun burned.

#2 No more wine. It has only been 3 days and I can safely say that by day 2 my will power was diminishing. The other dumb thing I do is eat peanut M&Ms because I think to myself "If I'm not having the calories from wine then I can have this snack!"

#3 Exercise more. I ran yesterday but today it is raining and my exercise on demand would not work. I think the weather makes it not work. So I ended up doing 25 minutes of yoga--that is not enough.

#4 no more sugar or white flour. This is the hardest (even harder than wine). My coffee creamer has it (and I have not found a substitute that is as yummy as "sugar free" creamate in hazelnut. And Activia yogourt has corn syrup in it too! So the first 2 things I put in mouth in the morning are horrible for me. And I don't like greek yogourt. At least not yet.

So I am failing my detox. I need advice! Please help.

xoxo

Cheers!

BETH

  1. I'm not a HUGE fan of Greek yogurt, but I'm getting used to it. I've found if you mix it with the right stuff, it's a lot better! I had it with strawberries and peaches this morning and it was actually pretty delicious. It's at least worth a try!
I definitely don't try to do no sugar/carbs/flour, but I do try to count my cals, and Greek Yogurt is for sure way better for you.

  2. I am trying to do a similar thing...but, in moderation. Completely cutting out wine will never happen - so maybe a glass a couple of times a week. White flour is in soooo much of what we eat. So, have cut out white bread, rice, etc...

  3. I have been trying to avoid the sugar and white flour too. I stopped drinking coffee and switched to tea so I can put a bit of honey in it. I also gave up yogurt and eat cottage cheese instead. I tried the Greek Yogurt and did not like it much. Good luck! It's hard to change habits, but if you keep at something for 21 days it becomes a new habit.

  4. Can you have honey? Does that qualify as sugar? If you can, try honey and raisins or dried cranberries on top of the greek yogurt - it's so good that way!!

  5. Have you heard of piloga - half yoga, half pilates? Since you're trying yoga, work in the pilates and get some tone muscles too. I've been doing this for about 6 months, once a week, and I have gotten rid of my baby belly, plus I feel great. I didn't cut out wine (two-three glasses a week) and I haven't given up hazelnut creamer (my favorite too). I did slow down on carbonated sodas though - that was a big part of my problem. I don't know much about flour as I'm not a bread eater, so can't help there.

By the way, new follower (thanks for stopping by me). I have your book and it's waiting in line to be read! :-)

  6. Up your daily dosage of Peanut M&Ms and add an extra handful of the peanut butter kind. Works like a charm.

  7. Don't focus on what you aren't doing. Instead, look at the benefits of wearing sunscreen and exercising. Those two things alone will help you out. At least you got out from behind the computer for 25 minutes. Celebrate!

  9. I agree with 1-4....so hard to do! Really can't pass up my wine.....white is now wheat,
rice is brown or couscous, having trouble with limiting my yogurt, and I just have to have sugar in my morning coffee! Atleast I'm eating Kashi with blueberries!!!!(LOL!) but I just need that morning sugar kick!

  12. Good luck and hang in there! Now that I am officially a member of the 30+ club, I get the same way after my birthday. For what it's worth, I think you look fantastic!

  13. I swear by Greek yogurt! I mix it with a teeny bit of honey and/or granola. I know honey has sugar, but its natural. You might like it better! Its also good with berries like raspberries!

  14. Increase fiber... you'll be amazed at what it does. Fiber One Bars are super yummy... drink tons of water and make exercising fun (I know, how is that possible?). I usually watch a movie on a treadmill... amazing how you forget you're doing cardio and just keep walking. I like rollerblading outside during the summer. And if you haven't tried Coppertones NutraShield Sunscreen, try it! It's 70 SPF specifically for the face and it not only protects but helps to reduce skin damage. I love it!

  15. Light vanilla yogurt (I cannot do plain!) with a spoonful of organic peanut butter... to die for! I do eat light yogurts... love them. Nutrasweet's not the greatest choice but it is better than sugar (for me). I also use a Splenda packet in my milk with Over the Moon fat free milk (that tastes like 2%) and froth the milk so that I have a very low fat capuccino in the morning. Yum!

Just back from Maine and not fattened up from way too much food a result of all the bad weather up there!

Do not cut out red wine. It's vitally important for your health! Cheers!

  16. I usually eat the Greek yogurt with some sort of sugar free preserves. Or lately, I've been allowing myself the sugar in bananas/oranges and I've been making banana/spinach/orange/Greek yogurt smoothies sweetened with Splenda or Truvia. Sounds nasty, but it's actually very nice. When you completely remove sugar and carbs from your diet, it's amazing what starts to taste good.

BTW, I can't remember how I found your blog but I love it!

  17. Just discovered your blog. Good luck with the detox/diet. It's never fun, but usually worth the effort.

  18. Surrender Dorothy and go to a weekend spa. No?

  19. I did sugarbusters and it was like getting off crack. I am a sugar addict so I'm no help! I say just drink on weekends and have one cheat day. That works for me.

  21. You are too funny! I think I lived on Diet Coke and Peanut M&M's for most of college. Kombucha is great for sugar cravings & detoxing...definitely an acquired taste, but by my 2nd bottle I was hooked!

  22. Try out The Shred. Jillian Michaels is a crazy drill sergeant, but it works!
