Nicknames
"A nickname is a gift. Whether given deliberately by the family or unintentionally by a peer, it bespeaks a certain In-ness and inaccessibility to outsiders. It's like being tapped for a secret society, minus the degrading rituals. It's tangible proof that you've gained entrance into an exclusive camaraderie." TOPH then goes on to list the most popular names
Muffy, Missy, Buffy etc.
My real name is Elizabeth. In high school my bff called me Bunny and I called him Bink. Beth is my nick name. This is a picture of my college bff Allegra and I in Maine. I'm going to have to give myself a 1/2 check for this preppy challenge. Have a great weekend and don't forget to enter my give away from Monday October 5th!!
XOXO

Thanks for your comment! I am happy now! My blog will continue to grow from all my interests from crafts to fashion to interior design to every day life to gov't yeah Im a rounded girl lol please come back and see me again!!
ReplyDeleteI don't have a nickname either...but,I think Molly is a pretty preppy name and my mom is an Elizabeth!
ReplyDeleteI have shared my knick name on my blog before, 'Girlie', given by my father. Could not love it more!
ReplyDeletei have 2 nickname : one was given by my mom "buzuc" (it's breton language)the other is Momo ( wish make me feel like i'm dumb) i'd prefer my celtic real name : Morgane !
ReplyDeleteI like it when nicknames evolve - when someone deliberately sets out to create nicknames it isn't the same thing.
ReplyDeleteI have one but it sounds baby.
growing up my cousin Ashley called me Messy Jessy... it caught on and it certainly did not come up out of the blue...
ReplyDeleteIn college my girlfriends called me "Stress"! That didn't come out of the blue either...
And OMG I cannot believe I am about to admit this...but one bf called me Boom Boom Chestica!!! LMAO
I don't have a nickname and only one of our kids has ended up with one--J4 is Tig...which evolved from Tiger, then Tigger, then just Tig. He's 15 and answers to it, so I guess it stuck.
ReplyDeleteOne summer in college I lived with Bib, Boo, Beth, and Lily...all were named Elizabeth.
I guess I would have to get 1/2 point here. Jennifer is my name and my parents didn't really care for Jenny, however I would not have minded being Jenni. My nickname as a child was Punkin. I always wanted to have one of the super preppy TOPH nicknames. I was so preppy I truly stood out. Actually I do remember people calling me the prep or MissPrep in jr high and high school. My nickname now is JennJenn by my family. DD is Brooke but we all call her Brookie. I thought she would hate it as she grew older but loves it.
ReplyDeleteNicknames can be such fun. In HS I had a group of friends that called me Wendel, not sure how it started but it stuck until college. Then somehow a group of guys in an organization I belonged to started calling me Muffy, within the group we had also had a Skippy and Stella. Today there is no nickname.
ReplyDelete3/4 check. I was Jenny in high school, but not college and I'm Jennifer (Jenn to those who know me best -friends, family). So that's part of my check.
ReplyDeleteThe other part, the nickname of our daughter, Lallie, with an "ie" nevertheless! ;-)
xoxo
I go by a nick name in day to day life, my real name is just too formal for me, and from my day to day name there are several different nick names branching off, my favorite is "Mag-Pie"
ReplyDeleteNo nick name :( I've failed this one.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend Beth!
Lovely photo! You two are so pretty. :)
ReplyDeleteOh dear, I don't have a nickname-don't hold it against me :( What a great blog-I am going to love following this!Best Wishes, NM. PS thanks for the lovely comments on my blog-you really made my day!
ReplyDeleteI knew a Winky, a Binky, a Buff, and a whole bunch of others I think of now as pet names. Only had a nickname as a camp counselor in college, does that count?
ReplyDeleteThanks for visiting my blog and joining my Paws and Pray site! As for nicknames, I really don't have one! My family calls me Deborah because they say I am a "Deborah" not a Debbie..but my work friends and husband insists on calling me Debbie.. Drives my mother nuts!! Your blog is great! Have a nice weekend!
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure if I like any of the nicknames that have ever been associated with me! {LOL} Lets see...there is the ever classic "shorty", short stuff, and yes...weenie tot {don't ask--haha} All I know the show "Married with children" had a whole episode about them. But when you are a freshman and the most popular Senior girl befriends you and gives you a nickname...you don't question it, ya just go with it. HA! Hope you have a great weekend! = )
ReplyDeleteI don't have a nickname...Thanks so much for stopping by my blog and for following. I am following back! :)
ReplyDeletelove that you are a Bunny in secret! is there anything more fun than a good nickname?!

Your comment has me cracking up as well. Definitely WASP-y names to me!! HUSBANDS...what can we do with them??? ;)
ReplyDeleteI'm Known for giving everyone I know a nickname. I'm so bad at doing this. That I forget the real name of the person. I'm so serious... Then, Everyone calls that person the nickname too.
ReplyDeleteI'm awful.
But it is a curse.
I have a couple. But nothing creative.
I come up with some good ones!
For example:
There was a Vet. Tech. I worked with that her Intials were "KY"
So I called her "Jelly" Ha! Ha!
My boss even started! Ha!
I'm awful.
But they never forget me :)
thanks for following my blog x

ReplyDeletecute nickname lovey!
ReplyDeleteA few friends used to call me by a nickname in high school, but I've always preferred my full name. I love preppy nicknames that aren't a shortened version of your name, they are so fun.
