Preppy Challenge

Quotes are taken directly from The Official Preppy Handbook.
The Family
"A Preppy begins grooming for Prep school at the moment of birth.  Mummy and Daddy have carefully selected first and middle names (at least one of each) for the newborn that correspond to the names of dormitories at their Prep alma maters. An announcement of birth is sent by messenger to the alumni newsletter to alert the school's admission office of a future applicant. And Prep tots are carted along on Homecoming weekends so that the campus will seem like a second home by the time they are fifteen."

Yes we sent engraved birth announcements to friends/family and alumni news letter--check! We are still meeting the preppy challenge!! Tell me about your family. Are you a Mummy?

Don't forget to enter my give away from Monday...see yesterday's post for details.

xoxo

  2. We actually sent ours (Christopher's) to The President. We got a letter of congratulations back! I had every intention of framing it and hanging it in Christopher's room... but then we moved and it got lost! You will be happy to know that the President at the time was a Republican. Daddy sent notices to his alma matter and fraternity. I did not.

  3. I guess I'm a Semi-Slacker Mummy too. We only sent birth announcements to friends, family & the alumni newsletter for #1 & #2. Poor 3rd child.

  6. You have a beautiful family! I'm not a Mummy yet, but I did go to a Prep School (here in the South, but not a boarding school), so I will definitely be sending my announcement in to the alumni newsletter when I do have a child!

  7. I'm not a mom yet, but I'm pretty anal on inviations, thank you notes, etc. on time. Mainly b/c of my love of cute stationary rather than love of etiquette. :)

  8. Not a mom yet, jury is still out on that one. But if we do have a child announcements will only go to friends and family.

  13. Yes, birth announcements along with announcements to the alumni magazine went out with each child. Carefully selected names, too, of course. I'm not doing too well on the dressing preppy part of the challenge, though. I've worn yoga pants and a fleece pullover three days in a row. Never even got my pearls out of the box this week. Horrors! ;-}

  20. How can I participate when my beloved copy was tossed aside by my own mummy decades ago? sniff, sniff, sob!

  21. Well, ummmmm... Yes, I'm a Mummy of two preppies. Daughter graduated from Univ. of Texas - Austin & now lives in L.A. as first assistant to a Hollywood producer at Endgame Entertainment. (Their latest project is "Where The Wild Things Are" which I read to both kids as children.)

Our son just made the Dean's List @ St. Edward's Univ. in Austin.

When they were each born I already had them on the list for *THE* pre-school & *THE* private school. I also had daughter signed up for *THE* summer camp once she was born. It was like that back then. Don't know if it still is though.

Daughter graduated from UT-Austin 3 yrs. ago (her Dad's alma mater) & was a Theta with Jenna Bush. Son cares nothing for the Greek life. So, one out of two isn't bad, LOL!

BTW - You and your family are absolutely precious!

As for me,... I attended an all girls boarding school outside of Saint Louis because I'd gotten into a bit of trouble while going to Aspen High in Aspen CO.

I never finished college because I'm an artist & they were trying to stifle my creativity. As a result, I've never had a desire to go back to school. Did I mention that we figured out that I must have been ADD & probably still am, but have learned to live peacefully with it. Go. Figure.
