All summer I've been meeting with doctors etc to deal with my "anxiety." Spit tests, hair tests, blood work, exercise, and vitamins have been administered. The anxiety has gotten a ton better. This week when I met with the doctor to go over my blood work she looked at me and finally sighed, "I think you just really need a hobby." Maybe I'll do this....
Just kidding, I'm not much of a gambler. But I had a lovely lunch with a girl friend at a Casino yesterday. Off to a Halloween parade (wearing orange) and I'll work on this "hobby" thing next week.

Glad you're feeling better! :)
ReplyDeleteGlad the anxiety is getting better! Yay for Halloween parades-kids having fun is infectious!
ReplyDeleteThank you for your sweet comment. As you know now, anxiety has been like a second skin to me( due to accident) - but not knowing its origin I can't imagine how awful it has been. I have been using writing, photography and scrapbooking to help keep me somewhat balanced.
ReplyDeleteI use to kickbox, play volleyball and ride horses prior to accident hobbies that no longer can do.
I recently started yoga, reiki and reflexology sessions ~ and have found over the past 7 weeks that they have helped ~ my goal is to get off medication, as prior to accident to get me to take an advil for a head ache, was like pulling teeth... a no go. HHL
Oh, Beth...I haven't followed long enough to know that you have anxiety until now but I'm in the same boat. Well, I was. Mine came in the form of post partum anxiety (not to be confussed w/ post partum depression - similar, but not the same). It didn't start until 9 months after I had my baby so it was a surprise. I had two full-on attacks, one that landed me in the ER b/c I thought I was having a heart attack. I went through this bout for a solid 9 months until I saw a doctor about it at my mother's urging. I was so happy that the doctor told me that she was not opposed to putting me on the likes of Xanax but first wanted to get my hormones back on track...apparetnly, they were very out of whack. I got back on birth control and it was like magic! No more anxiety spells. I actually stopped taking the bc pills (after seeing too many commercials about how it causes scary side effects) but my hormone level seemed to be OK - it's like I re-aligned myself. Anyway, I know we have our own set of circumstances, but wanted to share w/ you my experience with it. I wish more people would talk about it so they could help others. Glad to hear you'r doing better! Warmly, xoxo Tiffany
ReplyDeletep.s. I did consider taking up drinking. We'd be a fine pair - drinking & gambling (wink).
ReplyDeleteI'm just thrilled to pieces that your feelin' better girl. I'm lovin' that little skirt your sportin'!!! Have a great time at the parade.
ReplyDeleteGod bless and enjoy this festive fun~filled weekend sweetie!!! :o)
I'm so glad you are feeling better, and perhaps the doctor should have said "have some fun!", rather than "find a hobby". Sheesh. Anyway, you have so many talents I just know you find something you enjoy doing that allows you to expel some stress. Hey, how about writing another book ;)
ReplyDeleteIs your shrink Bethany??? Get a HOBBY!!! WTF???
ReplyDeleteHermes
hehehehehe at Hermes and at your shrink...you know we love you SC and just glad to hear you're feeling better!
ReplyDeleteHey Beth - after reading "False Victim" I'm sure you can understand the fact that I deal with anxiety and Post Traumatic stress every day of my life. My doctor put me on Lexapro and it worked but I went off it to manage it on my own. Hmm...not sure it was a good idea but I've learned to not to pop into any fast food restaurant during rush hour, try not to drive during rush hour, and before doing anything I always ask myself 'is this going to cause me unneeded stress? Some things can't always be avoided, but it sure has helped me to weed out what can. Love ya!
ReplyDeleteMy anxiety has been such fun these last few weeks of the campaign...only a few more days, THANK GOD!!!! I feel like I can have a "normal" life again! XOXO
ReplyDeleteHaha, I get anxious too; I think it's pretty normal. Cute photo, Beth!
ReplyDeleteGlad to read that you are feeling better!
ReplyDeleteAnyone that said "Get a hobby" is crass. You might need a second opinion. Sounds like you are dealing with it well though. Heck gambling...you might come up with all sorts of fun there! Anyone that writes I have enormous respect for, (that is a profession and hobby!) -would love to read some of your things. (I'm an armchair author) Have a great time/weekend at the parade!!
ReplyDeleteThere is always, of course, talk therapy. Sometimes it can help. I don't know if you've tried that already. My brother's a psychologist, so I know it takes finding a good one and the right one, but no harm in giving that a shot if you haven't yet.
ReplyDeleteI like the gambling therapy idea! LOL
ReplyDeleteGetting a hobby sounds like a pretty good diagnosis.
ReplyDeleteKeep us posted. :-)
Glad you are feeling better. I have had problems with anxiety....my doc linked it to premenopausal (sp?) hormone imbalance.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing - keep us posted on your new hobby:)
ReplyDeleteYou look lovely. Happy weekend!
Listen, the reason you are anxious is because we need to be living on the beach in Malibu!!
ReplyDeleteReally?? You don't seem anxious.
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear you finally got an answer and I wish you luck on your journey! Continue to be optimistic - it's one of your strengths I can tell!
