Family Preppy Challenge

Enter my Preppy give away below on blog post 10.5.09--Good luck!!!!

TOPH:

"No use sacrificing Bermuda vacation money for tuition for a kid who's going to run off and join a modern dance truope. Nor does the Prep parents' responsibility stop with simply ensuring their children's acceptance at a school: They've got to make certain that once the progeny are enrolled, they're not going to lock themselves in the computer lab for the whole four years and miss out on house party invitations, 'after-hours alcoholic sprees,' and the joy of shopping for madras."

Here is my Mommy at The Ocean City Yacht Club this summer! She smokes with a cigarette filter and is very eccentric!  We love her and we all have fun stories to share about our relatives. Do feel free to share some with me!

TOPH "When you spend all your time with your family and other Prep families at the beach, on the slopes, at the country club, and at innumerable family reunions; when all your birthday and Christmas presents are either monogrammed or have Izod labels, it's unlikely that you will have the normal childhood aspirations of becoming a fireman or a nurse."****

Preppy challenge complete--eccentric parents who instilled preppiness in me--skiing, sailing, monograms, needlepoint, etiquette school, debutante dancing class. (just to name a few) Check! I passed with flying colors. And I"m only on page 18!!

Preppying through Wednesday!!!

****these are direct quotes from The Official Preppy Handbook. I think being a nurse or fireman can be preppy too.

  2. Sadly, I was always sure I was switched at birth with Doro Bush. So my preppiness was learned from being a voracious reader from about the age of 8, rather than being to the manor/manner born.

  8. My mother would never ever ever admit that she is preppy. Admittedly, she is more "classic" than preppy... but there is some crossover there. My dad is the most adorable prep e-ver! My mother dresses him well... pink corduroys, bright madrass shirts and cashmere sweaters in more colors than the rainbow. He's not showy. J.Press, Izod, Paul Stuart and Brooks Brothers. This was what was in his repetoire when I was growing up. He never wore jeans. He has his old khakis for mowing the lawn. He's not a Gucci man. never has been. Just his Cole Haan cordovans... sockless in the summertime of course. My dad is adorable.
My husband is not preppy. His family is not either. Good thing he has me to dress him! He's come a long way and developed a fondness for the Gucci loafer. Lord help me!
