The Official Preppy Handbook Preppy challenge

The Home:

"If The Look must be pinned down, the look is English-American, with a dash of seaside resort and women's handicraft. It is where the Chippendale secretary meets the needlepoint covered brick doorstop, and the lobster-trap coffee table meets the prized Kerman rug.  Understatement is essential--perfect proportions and clean lines are preferred over ornate detail. The key words are classic, handsome, patina, and Mother's." *

Mommie's needlepoint foot stool I use every day to reach my sweaters and shoes

Our nautical fish door knocker

Our original ship lantern and mermaid that hang over our front door

Check, check! I've passed another preppy challenge. What Mommie did not give me we have purchased from nautical antique store. It probably helps that we live sea side.

How do you decorate? Do you like to mix in the nautical theme?

xoxo

  1. Your Post on the challenge are great. We are all about the nautical look around here. I can't think of a room in the house that dosen't have something nautical. It might help in our case that we live by the sea as well.

  2. So glad to see your new post come up in my "feed"...It's been a couple days since I have stopped in :) Our home is "classic modern" if you will, but the house we vacation in definitely passes this preppy challenge! Hope you are well!! Xo

  3. Love the footstool! I absolutely adore nautical items, but I think if I go overboard with them my house might look silly as it's nowhere near any water. Oh, well. Maybe one day...

  4. I have been following along on your TOPH check list tour and getting a real kick out of it. I thought of you this morning when I was checking out TOPH to make sure my husbands shirts were monogramed up to TOPH standards.
Not sure that I have mentioned it before but it is worth repeating that I really liked your book, it was a great read.

  5. I love nautical items, but don't have any in my house.

Ok, that's a lie. I have one picture frame with seashells on it that is holding the first picture ever of Leland and I together. We are at the ocean so it seemed fitting.

  6. I love the nautical theme, but I do not have any in my own house. My parent's camp has lots of nautical pieces though, so maybe they will be mine someday! :) My Grandparent's ocean house is ALL nautical. Makes me happy to just think about it!

  9. What you wrote is so true - I think I drive people crazy when I show them around the house and tell them where stuff came from...I always thought it was a Southern thing but it must be a preppy thing too.

Since we're so close to the beach I have seashells everywhere...I also have some vintage postcards from the Bahamas...things like that out.

  14. Man, I got all excited when I read the word Chippendale's and was lookin' for hunky guys with big bulky muscles in skintight thongs! Lord forgive me, it's just furniture.

I'm quite taken with the needlepoint footstool.

Have a terrific day filled with blessings.

  19. I do love nautical..but my husband doesn't. So, I must compromise somewhere. Hmmm, then how do we decorate...we things we love whether that be from a store or a flea market or inherited. We have some amazing finds from my family -antique gumball machines, a Victrola - that accent our other pieces. I keep stopping by...must quit lurking and following along. Thanks!

  20. Ooh I love the ship lantern and mermaid. So cool! I'm kind of really girly and mostly decorate my apartment with Audrey Hepburn posters and pink lamps. LOL! But I'm sure that will change in the future. ;)
