Facial mis hap!

I had a "chemical" peel on Thursday and I'm wondering if I made a HUGE mistake. Has anyone else had one? I've had glycolic peels but this was a Vitamin A one. So I literally look like I have the worst sunburn known to man, my skin is peeling off and I'm actually uncomfortable.

I'm vain, I hate to admit it. I want to be the type of person that does not mind aging or put a ton of effort etc on looks but....I get upset when I see new age spots/lines etc. I thought this would be a great way to combat that.  My 20 year high school reunion is in a few weeks. But this may have been more drastic than my usual lay back get away from it all facial.

Any and all advice would be greatly appreciated. I've been applying vitamin E oil every few hours but it has been 3 days. I don't know how much longer I can go on.

OK! So sorry. I'll be back tomorrow with more guest bloggers and Preppy challenges. But tonight I'm seriously doubting my ability to deal with getting older!

xoxo

  2. You should call the dermatologist or person that did it for you. I think it's normal to feel burned after but it should go away soon. Good luck and I hope you feel better soon. XOXO

  3. aaaagggh! as if last week's rude comment wasn't enough :( I second what Gwen says and I'd get my rear to the derm for a check-in.

just rotten- will keep you and your face in my prayers for speedy cell turn-over!

  4. Pure Vitamin A, or Retinol, should never be applied as a peel. Everything I've read, says you put tiny pea size dabs on your face and rub it in. Start once a week, and build up to every other night over a two month period.

Check out this Aussie website - http://www.cosmosclinic.com.au/ - Davis Segal, the practice manager, put a book out that I've just read. Check out the treatment and skincare pages and you might learn something you didn't know.

A peel should never be done by anyone but a dermatologist. I had dermabrasion done at a beauty salon and she scratched my face.

I'm considering buying a tube of Zorac, which is retinol, it works in about 2 weeks, and it works faster with less side affects than retinoic acid.

Read the website, and then maybe there's something you can use, or someone you can go to, even email David from the clinic, and he might be able to help you.

  5. OMG, so sorry you are having trouble with the peel. I agree with Gwen and QBS the best thing is to probably check with your derm. May be a normal reaction but it won't hurt to double check. Prayers for a glowing result going out.

I sure hope you feel better soon :)

  7. That stinks...I don't have any advice. I did see when Samantha from Sex in the City had one and she looked like what you are describing!
I am all for a little help with aging! I do not want to do it gracefully..

  8. Ouch! Sorry, girl. That sounds so uncomfortable. I've only had the glycolic myself too. Feel better!

  9. Poor thing! I learned after my first eyebrow waxing that my skin is too sensitive for just about everything (even glycolic acid face washes!), so a peel is out of the question for me. I agree with the others, though, you should check with a derm just in case!

I've got something for you on my blog, you can click here. It's a thank you for being such a hilarious blogger!

  11. Definitely check w/your Dr asap. This sounds really painful. Have you tried using aquaphor on your skin? I use it when my skin is cut or very dry and it works really well. On the good side, I have seen people do peels where the skin looked super painful at first, but once it healed the results were amazing! I hope everything works out for you. My husband says he used to work for an office that had these peels, and its normal to feel burned for about a week, even 10 days. Hope yrs doesn't hurt for that long though:(

  12. I wish I had some advice for you. But I don't know anything about this stuff...
Well, here's some advice: don't worry about it. This is probably just the strange beginning part before you start to heal. The part before your skin starts to look FABULOUS.

And if not, well then this is just a bad story you can laugh about later. Because your skin will go back to normal and you will look just as lovely as before. :)

    Hugs!!

  13. Oh dear, I have just caught up with all your news/previous blogs and now you have to deal with this...I think you should just pack those bags and come out to Australia for a nice long summer holiday...
    Take care and keep smiling.

  14. Oh no love- feel better!!! I am not sure if you can put this on your face, BUT last year when I got a realllly bad sunburn everywhere (think Lobster!) my dermatologist gave me a prescribed Cortozone Cream (not the kind you can buy off the shelf but the real deal). He also gave me a prescription for Cortizone pills (I think I took 3 the first day and 3 the second day) and the combination of the two had my skin back to better with a few days. Seriously, call your derm and ask about anything they'd recommend. It may help! Feel better soon XOXO

  15. I'm flashing to Samantha Jones! Hope you're on the mend. : )

  16. Oh no! I feel for you! Unfortunately, I have zero advice to provide. And that old SATC episode scared me away from chemical peels forever... I get tempted sometimes, then I think about Samantha. Ouch! Call your derm and ask for some pro advice!

  17. I am so sorry and I hope your MD has some treatment to speed healing for you.
If you can take antiinflammatories e.g. Motrin, Ibuprofen, that can help reduce swelling.
Also, the nutritional supplements Alpha Lipoic acid, CoQ10, and biosilic acid (Biosil) can really reduce redness, increase healing and really beautify your skin.
Have you read the book, The Perricone Prescription by Dr.Perricone? He has lots of great antiaging information that I swear by.

  18. I agree I would contact the dermatologist. Have you tried any aloe vera gel? It might take the burn out. Good luck! 'So sorry to hear this happened.

    Have a good day! {SIGH}

  19. This sounds so painful!! I agree with everyone who has recommended going to the Derm or at giving the facialist a call to find out if this is normal after a chem treatment.

I've found Vaseline helps soothe some sunburn pain when my face is sore, it might be worth a try!

  20. Oh no! I've been contemplating having a peel done (not the mini peel, but a full peel) and I've been a bit nervous for just this reason. Please do let us know what you find out. If that reaction is normal? I remember Samantha had one in a Sex & the City episode and the exact same thing happened to her? So, maybe that is what happens with major peels?

Thinking about you and hoping you are feeling better today!

  21. I think it is supposed to feel like that, but like everyone else says...call the Dr. My Mother in Law had it done and hers was like that for a couple weeks. I had photo laser rejuvenation and it was great but my face stung for a few days after, and it hurt while it was being done...childbirth hurt less...but it was worth it. I too can admit I am vain!

  23. Vanity before sanity....haha.
Peels SUCK at first but are SO worth it in the long run.

  26. I'm sending you some of our Tragic Magic. I'm so sorry I didn't realize you had the sunburn effect from the peel too. Have you spoken to the person who did it? I am so sorry. It will get better.

  27. Oh dear. I just know that would happen to me, which is why I don't get a chemical peel...

All I can say is I hope you have an Aloe Vera plant. It works wonders in healing.

  28. Ohhh no. I'm a little late but I hope you are doing better. I agree with others, check with your derm. I've only had glycolic peels (which I LOVE), since that's the most my sensitive skin can handle but whenever I get any sort of reaction to any product, etc., I use Egyptian Magic until I can get into see the derm or my until skin calms down. Like the name, it's magic. I swear by this stuff. Good to have on hand for any skincare related issue. Good luck!:-)
