Can You read?

Or a better question is, can I write. The answer is, no. But, that did not stop me from writing a book. Sure I hired editors, my agent tried to help me with re writes. In the end I'm just like most people-I want to get things done and I like to do them my way. As Hermes would say, I'm not bossy I just have better ideas! I took a lot of heat on Amazon for the typos in my book and yes it hurt my feelings, even though I was the one that did not want to hire yet another editor. Hermes told me to write the bad reviewers back and say "hey I never said I could write," after all it was kind of amusing. And answering critics isn't my strong suit-I didn't want to look defensive.

As my very wise Father pointed out if you put a poorly spelled sentence in front of someone they can read it!

Have a beautiful Preppy Friday

  1. I'll be the first to raise my hand. The world feels the need to give their two cents everywhere, even when there is potential to wound another. Beth you have done something that most of us can only imagine about, have a dream and follow it thru to fruition. Be proud of yourself, as we your blogging friends are of you, and take those 'literary critics' with a grain of salt.
    Have a great weekend, friend!

  2. My dear Beth! All that matters is that you had a book published!! How many people can say that?! I can't wait to read it!

Bah humbug to the rest of them!

    Happy Friday xoxo Cari

  3. Don't ya just love those people who always have to point out everyone else's mistakes and faults...as if they have none themselves? Your book is just as fabulous as you are. Just ignore the haters! :)

  4. I actually thought the typos were the editors fault. :) I loved your book. It was a fun easy read and perfect for summer reading.

  6. Don’t sweat it…you wrote a book…huge deal! xx

  7. I would've blamed the editor for the typos - surely that is their job right? To correct text? When I was EIC of my school paper I had to correct typos!

  8. There's always a typo somewhere! Don't worry about it! I've enjoyed reading the sections of the book that you've shared with us and can't wait to get the book this Christmas.

  9. Whoever thinks it easy to write a book, please sit down and try it. I would DIE if I couln't write. I LIVE for and LOVE writing, but it is not easy. And it's not always fun.

And I am not proud. If I hadn't found a publisher I would have self-published, which is VERY MUCH looked down on in the literary world. I don't care. I love it so much and beleived in my story so much that I still would have done it that way if I'd had to.

Hold your chin up and keep putting pen to paper.

  10. I haven't read your book yet but I will soon! Everyone makes mistakes just like the people who have problems with your mistakes. It's no big deal and maybe they shouldn't even read the book if they don't like it :) Have a fabulous day!

  11. Bet, it's the content, it's meaning that is most important.

  13. Oh my gosh, as a reporter, I can relate to this so much. People will e-mail about the smallest little errors (all which escaped the eyes of an editor and copy editor). It's like people have nothing better to do than criticize trivial things, rather than appreciate it. Nothing is perfect. I have read some of the best books by famous authors that have little errors in them. (Grammar or even accidentally saying "he" instead of "she"). Um, I just keep reading and move on. I don't immediately go on Amazon and bitch about it.
    Ugh.
I'm sorry you have to put up with that! Just ignore those kinds of people. And feel sorry that they have nothing better to do with their time than complain about little errors in a book.

  14. Definitely not a social-lite but I'm posting anyway. So what is your book about? A little erros jist makse it hmuan? Rite?

  16. I loved your book! And I agree with Suburban Princess...it is the editor's job. I think it is great that you wrote and were published! An accompilshment to be proud of!

  17. As an editor, I read and re-read comments I post. I read and re-read my blog to try to catch all the typos. But despite my best efforts typos slip in. And you know what? It's okay, because I'm not perfect. I'm not a programmed piece of software (and neither are you), and yet I'm still better than spell check when it comes to catching their vs there. (And I'm also raising my hand.)

  18. I'm raising my hand! However, I do have some dyslexia when it comes to numbers...

  19. Oh my...I was on Amazon getting a book for my dad and I went and looked at the reviews (Since you posted about them) and ohhhh I was Cringing reading them…I can only imagine how you felt reading them. People are so mean!!
SO sorry for that. boo to them!!

  20. Thank you for everyone's kind words, encouragement and support. I swear I'm telling the truth when I say this. But I got another mean amazon review today. Maybe posting this wasn't such a hot idea. But I had to say my peace and I always feel the most comfortable here. Who knew I'd get another one. Oh well. I'm actually less bothered. The throw up review was the meanest. Thanks again. Love you peeps! xoxo

  21. Don't allow other ideas in.
    Usually works for me.

  22. Don't pay attention to the mean reviews. Just be proud of the fact that you wrote a book and it got published. Not a small feat! Your book should be here any day. I can't wait to read it. I enjoy your blog, so I know I will enjoy your book.

    Happy weekend!

  23. I was so upset by the comments that the people left on Amazon Beth :( If you don't have anything nice to day, don't say anything at all- whatever happened to that?

I personally thought that the spelling was part of the charm, it really was like reading the thoughts of a real-life person! There is nothing I'd want to have changed in that book!

Keep on owning it big sis!

  24. If they jailed you for typos and miss spellings I would be locked up and they would throw the key away!!!

  25. You had enough editors how did the mistakes get through?

Obviously they didn't have any idea of what they were doing.......

    Sure they were editors ;|

  26. I'm fairly certain that the majority of those criticizing you are not published authors!

  27. I think it's amazing you have a book published!! I am just dying to read it. I doubt those mean people have a book. We all think you rock!
