Happy Socialite Saturday!

I live for the weekends.

Things are on my terms. We don't have school or anything else dictating our schedule. With that said, this is where you can usually find me....

I'm not good at horse back riding. I've been doing it my whole life. But like most of my hobbies, I'm average. However, my sister Dawn LOVED to ride and was quite good at it. Sorry I've never mentioned her before. She died a few years ago at 44. Yes, it is a total loss. And one I struggle with every day. But I know she is smiling on my from heaven when I ride horses. Her passion so there fore mine.

Have a preppy day!
xoxo

  1. I do miss riding! The last time was when I was pregnant with my first child and had to stop taking the lessons. I often think about having my own horse again, someday. So sorry to hear about your sister, but nice that you can still connect with her through a favorite activity!

  2. I love to imagine that I'm good at riding horses. But the truth is I'm horrible. I'm afraid of the big beasts, and they know it.

  3. Love horses...wish I had one! Used to ride my neighbors when we were little girls. I should try again. And so sorry to hear about your sister. Hugs! CZ

  4. I am so sorry about your sister. I'm glad you know she is smiling down on you!
I grew up on a horse farm and my mother still boards horses, but I have not rode in about 30 years! I should do it again, if I remember, I liked it!

  5. Cool photo, but I'm terrified of riding horses. Not sure why.

  6. I can not imagine my life without horses and I am sure that your sister is looking down at you and smiling with a big thumbs up! Happy Horse Riding from one horse woman to another! XO

  7. Oh my gosh Beth! How come I didn't know you ride? This is my passion. Well riding and tennis. Do you ride English or Western? I'm strictly English. I love the horses and the barn. I say barn, but it's really Cottonwood Riding and Polo Club. That's where my time and money lives.

  8. Thank you for all of your super supportive comments. I've rid-in my whole life. I've also skied amongst many other "hobbies" that i'll get to on my blog. But for this one-it is all about my sister Dawn, who I miss SO much.xoxo

  11. I have never ever gotten on a horse and I don't think I ever will so compared to me you are an Olympian! You certainly look like you know what you are doing to me.

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend.

    Best wishes, Natasha.

  12. Oh, how sad. I don't have a sibling but always wanted one. It's so tragic when you lose someone young who knew you when you were young. I love horses too.

  15. What a mix of emotions you must go through when you are riding then. 44 is so young for a person's passing. Stay well.

  17. I rode only at camp. BUT I live in one of the cutest horse towns in the country. We actually have people riding horseback in our downtown. Some of our streets (in town) are dirt for the horses. Big horse and polo community... in fact, Aiken started as a winter colony for the horsey set in the 1800's. Come on down!

On another note, I love talking to my sister, so I know this must be hard...

  18. That is a little weird...my sister is a TOTAL horse nut. She actually owns her own stable, teaches riding lessons and such in Bridgehampton!

I am sorry about the loss of your sister. I cannot even imagine. xo

  19. You are a good sister!!! I know you miss her more than you can even begin to tell us. Talk about her whenever you need to because we'd love to know her. I'm sure she was really special. I would love to be comfortable riding horses! I was thrown and now I am scared!

  21. My next novel is all about my sister. Still fiction like the first but you'll get a good sense of her. She is all over the character I've named for her. Thx again for the support. I live for my blog friends! I wish I could have you all over for a Christmas party. xoxo

  22. I'm another one of those who grew up riding at summer camp, thinking I really knew how to ride. Years later, I discovered I can barely ride at all... especially that high up. My kids are both the same. They learned at summer camp, although daughter really got into it & ended up going back as a counselor & riding instructor.

I'm sorry to hear about your sister, as I know that must have been a horribly difficult time in your life. My best friend was like the sister I never had when she passed away at 50. I had a terrible time dealing with it.

  23. I think the most incredible thing you can do is get on a horse every weekend and think of your sister. What a wonderful way to connect with her. I look forward to your next book---and your next blog entry! :) cSd

  25. I used to love horseback riding. My mom's stepdad used to have horses, and everytime we would visit I would ride around their yard. He had to have hip surgery and had to give the horse away.

I'm so sorry about the loss of your sister-my mom lost her brother a few years ago. He was only 36, and I know she still struggles with it.

  26. Hi-ho-Preppy-Girl!!! I miss riding horses, I grew up riding. Then I married a fella who hates horses but is quite amused by donkeys. Have ya ever tried to ride a donkey...well I'll just say don't, nothin' like a horse. 'Nuff said.

I'm am so sorry about the loss of your sis. I'm sure it leaves a big old hole in your heart. Betcha' you can feel her close every time you ride and what a tribute your next book will be to her.

God bless and enjoy the warmth of the season!!!
