Socialite Saturday

Hello!

Today Husband and I are celebrating our anniversary (although it isn't until tomorrow).

Husband and I had, what I call a Country Club wedding. They are very normal on The Main Line as we don't have beaches or mountains to marry on. But first...getting the ring.

Husband was moving to the shore and beginning his first job post school. We'd been dating for a year. In Peurto Rico over dinner I asked him what about me? Husband's mother had passed away and he was going to live at home with his father, keep him company so to speak. Since we could not share a room, the thought of summering at his Father's house did not appeal to me. Husbands solution to this was he would rent me a condo on the bay. I began to cry. Which, btw did not phase him, he continued to eat and stared at me like "what?" MEN!

I had to come up with plan b as I was not about to let him rent me some pad, and feel like a kept secret is said condo. After drinking a bottle of wine with a friend I came up with a solution. Husband entered my apartment and my friend said her goodbye's.  "Darling, you are moving and I am staying here. What is our plan? I don't want to drift apart. You will be busy with your new job and your father really needs you, but I need you too."  Husband digested what I said, "Are you asking me if we are getting married?"  I did not react. "Yes, I thought we'd get engaged this summer." To which I said, "Good, dear that was all I wanted to know." Dunn!

Then of course husband could not contain himself and started telling everyone we were getting married. So, I had to sit down with him again. "Darling, you can't tell people we are getting married without asking me first." To which he replied, "Fine, Will you marry me?" and of course I said "Yes!" and promptly called my mother, took his credit card and went straight to Tiffany & Co.  Husband went fishing and when he got home I had a sparkly new ring and we were engaged. See, life is not like the movies but it has a way of working itself out.

Happy Socialite Saturday.

Collars up!

  22. Than you for sharing your story! It is SO reassuring to hear that all happy marriages don't necessarily follow some sort of "by the book" process. Sometimes it IS okay to ask for what you want :)

    Happy Anniversary!!
