I have a fear of speaking in public, not even a little.A LOT! One that can stop me dead in my tracks days before I even have to do it. Today, I had the honor of being asked to speak in front of the Ocean City Public Library at a Tea. I accepted the privileged and went straight to a doctor and a spa. Beta blocker in hand, I prepared a recap of how I came to write my novel, Social Climbers. Not feeling a bit worthy of anyone's time, I fretted disappointment. I know what Elenore Roosevelt said, "noone can make you feel inferior without your permission." So, I invited my Bestie Bonnie to come for moral support. I lived, I wasn't awesome--but I don't think I totally stunk. I faced my fear, in fact my opening line was, "Thank you for sharing with me, the day I faced my worst fear..speaking in public." With that I'll say I wore Kate Spade shoes all day, and while I have some that are beautiful and not comfortable, these were. Thank you Kate Spade for helping me stand, when I thought I might fall!
Collars up!

ReplyDeleteWell done Beth my dear...I knew you could hit the ball....if not out of the park...at least a double off the wall. Did any of my pointers help?
ReplyDeleteGood for you! I remember that fear of my first time & it's almost paralyzing, but you got past it. My years in the Jr. League cured me of any public speaking shyness (or interest in joining any large groups of women).
