Socialite Saturday

Or should I say Sugar Saturday? I have a sugar craving....problem. I'm trying to cleanse off sugar, for my health. It is driving me insane. Am I an emotional eater? Why do I crave sugar, even when I'm not hungry they take over all rational decision making skills I have. Also, if food is front of me I can't stop putting it in my mouth (again, even if I'm not hungry). Is this an oral fixation? That I always seem to be eating?

I need major advice. What are your tricks? What do you eat at a movie theater? HELP!

Down with Sugar! (But I still desperately want it--ugh) Signed, FRUSTRATED

  1. Hubs and I generally go out to eat (splitting an entree) before a movie. We drink water during the Movie.

I too have a horrendous sweet tooth so I keep all sweets and baked goods (for hubs lunch) frozen. That outta sight~~~outta mind thing works for me. Not to say I don't allow myself a big old cheat on the weekends. A girls just gotta have a treat every now and again. Just sayin'....

God bless ya sweetie and have a 'sweet' weekend. :o)

  4. I feel for you. Unfortunately, I don't have any tricks on how to stay away from sugar. I tend to balance my sugar intake with something salty. Not exactly the tip you were looking for but I understand your dilemma...I'm right there with you. :-)

  5. I used to be terribly addicted to sugar and had no idea why...a specialist suggested I take Ashwaghanda every day. It's easily found in health stores. Anyhoooooo...no more sugar cravings!

  6. The sugar craving goes away if you can stay on a very low-carb diet, like South Beach, for ten days or so. After that, sugar and sugary products will begin to revolt you. The diet itself is quite satisfying and there will be no difficulty about adhering to it for the rest of your life. In the first week or so, self-discipline is crucial. But of course, self-discipline is crucial in almost every aspect of the life of a successful person.

  8. It about takes two weeks on a low-carb, higher protein diet to get rid of the sugar cravings. You need to reprogram your body to not crave it and even substituting fruit is just going to fuel it while you're ridding yourself of this need. Dump the alcohol, too. Bring a small bag of cashews to movies and make them last. Forget the bread at a restaurant - usually it isn't that good anyway!

Too much sugar puts on the belly fat - the worst place on your body for extra lbs.

  9. From what I understand, a sugar addiction is fed by eating sugar...if you detox, you won't have it. I also have heard that consuming artificial sweeteners (even in diet sodas) can increase our cravings for sugar. I don't know if it's true or not, but artificial sweeteners are practically in everything I drink, from my coffee to my bottles of water with Crystal Light to go lemonade type mixes to my sodas...and I'm always craving sweets.

  10. Oh, goodness...I just came back from an insane memorial service that was more like the best wedding event you've ever attended and they served the yummiest red velvet whoopie pies! True Confession: I wrapped one up in an napkin and shoved in my bag for later. I can't help you - I NEED HELP!

  12. No help here!
We just came from a movie...saw "The King's Speech"...it was great BTW! But had to have our popcorn...we chose to go for the small size rather than large to be good.
My sweet tooth is aching too...it's hard. When I lose, I have to be B/W...black and white = no! no! No!=I hate that!

  13. I really can't resist sugar either. I satisfy myself by chewing gum and always drinking something.

  14. i tried to go off sugar once. i didn't last a day. i am an emotional eater. i especially eat poorly when my husband is out of town. it's the whole being alone and bored thing. i stay up late and snack. when i do try to be smart, i will substitute healthier snacks, like carrots and fruits and drink water with lemon as opposed to Coke, and won't buy the fatty, sugary ones at the store. good luck with the cleanse and take care.

  15. Something that has helped me a lot is the Paleo Diet book. Very informative. Another thing that always gets my attention is RE-watching Supersize Me, the documentary. That right there disgust me to the point of NOT putting sugar or fast food in my mouth!

  17. Ahhhh, I wish I could help, but I can't! I am a sugar addict right there with you! At least you are one step ahead...you want to give it up. I don't, not yet anyway.

    Sugar and I = bff.

  18. I have to say that the one thing I have not craved at all on this detox is sugar. I can eat whatever fruit I want and that has been enough (OK to be perfectly honest, I did want some M&Ms last weekend, but that was out of boredom not craving).

Are you just trying to get off sugar or are you going for a full detox? As far as what I eat before movies, we RARELY go to them in a theatre. I prefer to watch movies in the comfort of my own home rather than risk sitting by someone annoying. ;)

Good luck Beth and remember as I have said, if I can do a detox ANYONE can. Really!

  19. I'll be honest, after Dr. Oz's episode about bed bugs I haven't been to the theatre since!

  20. If the movie's good enough, I find I never need to eat anything! That said, perhaps a nice drink?

  21. Against my will, I've finally become a convert to Truvia (I even carry it in my purse). For natural sugar I just eat an apple or something similar. Good luck my dear...

  22. Fruit will work for something sweet. What we had to do, was totally be off ALL sugar, even fruit, for two weeks.... then only had 1 piece of fruit a day for a week (it tasted soooo sweet!) and now, I can have 2 pieces a day. I do have to say, those two weeks were soooo hard, especially for Hubs who is the real sugar addict in the family! Good luck!
