WASP Wednesday

Morning Blends.  When I began blogging (sorry I don't keep track of my 100th post or my blog anniversary well) I was promoting my novel Social Climbers.

Lilly Pulitzer was helping me with my book tour and dressing me for a few press interviews. They casually mentioned I should check out the Lilly loving blogs. I never knew such a thing existed. I immediately went to find you all and revamped my blog because of you all. I was so excited to find my "tribe" as it's called in social media networking. Not to sell you my book but because I loved being surrounded by people who shared similar interests. That's hard to find in life.

Once I'd beaten the Social Climbers promotion to death I kept blogging because it was so fun.  But like many of you (or not) I don't always have anything going on, or I'm in a foul mood or I'm boring.  I watched as many of my original friends in Blog land quit. I wondered why I was still blogging. Obviously it takes me 5 years to write a book (House Bunny is a full time job at the Frat House), so what was I promoting?

A few months ago I was reading a blog (sorry don't remember which one) and the author wrote about why she blogged. It finally clicked!  I'm not here to promote anything (well occassionally, ha). This is my photo album. This is my legacy for my son's. I leave a lot out. I try not to discuss my personal problems, my political views or anything too controversial. But one day, when I'm old and my son's are grown they will be able to look at this on line time line of what went on in our lives.

This renewed my interest in blogging. It has breathed new life into me and my blog. When you do something for something greater than yourself it is gratifying.

Even though I get frustrated with you, Mommie loves you all the way to the moon and back!

  1. I've always said my blog is a time capsule for my son so when he is grown up he can see my life through my eyes.

It doesn't make it any easier to keep blogging tho...especially when no one seems to be reading!

PS...monogrammed pocket mirrors are coming up in my shop!

The napkins are still a work in progress...I got so busy over the summer I didn't have time to learn the machinery...soon I hope! In the meantime, I have pocket mirrors, magnets and buttons - all monogramable! I will post pics soooon!

You must be feeling less frazzled now that school is back - I'm enjoying some time to myself every once in a while!

  3. A Blog can be viewed as non-confidential diary. To that end it is a great value for your kids and even you...look back at photos and posts about the journey. I for one am glad you keep at it.

  8. I agree. Blogging is like modern journal writing...only publicly. The things you want to remember, things that inspire you, things that make you who you are. I love your blog, love seeing what you are up to and I appreciate your reading my sillies.

  9. I like this a lot; I'm not into the blogs that are all sellout and just doing it for attention. I want to blog for myself, and just like you, to document my life. Cute family photo, too!

  10. I have so many photo albums consisting of pictures from decades of family fun...our trips to the Jersey Shore, the Carribbean, France...New York City...it's so nice to instead accumulate these memories online via a blog...did you move into the lovely house you posted a weeks back?
