One Fabulous Mom and I ate at the Polo Lounge at The Beverly Hills Hotel yesterday. It was so fun, no preppies in LA LA Land. We saw Demi Moore leaving as we arrived. Then we sat next to Posh Spice, a.k.a Victoria Bekham and had a clear view of Charlize Theron a few tables over. It was AMAZING! But Liz and I were the only ones in Lilly Pulitzer, this job is going to be harder than I thought. Guess I'll just have to buy a house here so I can come visit more often. More meetings today, I'll keep you posted on who else I spot.

WASP Wednesday
I hope this blog finds everyone well. I'm really well, I have news but I'm not sure if I'm allowed to blog about it. I also hope all you Main Line girls will be at Lilly Pulitzer tomorrow for our Team Challenge fund raiser at Suburban Square-there is not a cost to attend! I get a lot of questions. I love it, thank you. But, the main one (and most humbling) is my diet and exercise regime. Please note, I'm not a size 2 but I take great care of myself. So here we go!
I'm a true believer in NEVER dieting. Instead I try to love myself (try being the operative word). When I wake up I drink tea and take a ton of vitamins: calcium, vitamin d, b vitamins, fish oil, baby aspirin and COQ10.
I exercise every day but Sunday. I love taking a brisk walk (the sunlight has natural vitamin d) and the fresh air must be healthy-right? 2 days I do weights but not biceps curls, it's called something but just read the truth about 6 pack abs (which I do not have), it is weights but uses multiple muscles at once. I finish off with breathing by Body by Zna and stomach vacuums (I do not do crunches-waste of time). Saturday's I horse back ride.
I live on the 1 food ingredient diet. If a food has more than one ingredient I don't eat it. I eat eggs, meat, fish, cheese, avocados, potatoes, beans. You can make a dish with more than one ingredient, but in their original formula they should be one ingredient. I also avoid soy, sugar, and wheat. But I love wine!
I want to get back to the loving of yourself. Don't look at the fat--look at your soul. Who you picture yourself as is more important than a dress size or a scale weight. One of the reasons I'm at the spa, or Lilly Pulitzer is I taking loving care of my body and it responds by being healthy in return. Stay strong and love yourself!
xoxo

Happy WASP Wednesday!
I hope this blog finds everyone having a lovely day. SC finally went to a real doctor, no I did not go to the spa. I really met with a therapist and she seems amazing. Since I don't want to take pharm meds for my ADD and anxiety she told me to take a lot of supplements: vitamin B, fish oils, calcium, D3, magnesium, potassium, COQ10. OMG My ADD is out of control-some I take in the morning, some at night, some with food, some without. I also got a beta blocker for public appearances (major anxiety sets in when I have to public speak). She wants to treat me for anxiety with an anti depressant, I want to treat ADD. We agree to disagree until next appointment. Wish me luck, but I'm still wearing skirts!

Wasp Wednesday
When did you first learn of the preppy life, embrace it's style?
I first learned about the preppy life during my high school years. I went to an extremely preppy school in Delaware (The Tatnall School) but I must admit that I didn’t embrace it until college. During the first few months as an undergrad, I rebelled by wearing jeans and t-shirts on a daily basis but rather quickly found myself going back to my khakis and polo style from Tatnall. I just felt more comfortable in oxfords and loafers than sweatshirts and sneakers.
Do people call you a "metro sexual?"
I’ve never been called a “metro” mainly because I try to stay away from trends and Banana Republic. If you stick to classic pieces such as owning a British Khaki trench coat, a couple of knit and rep ties, a Timex watch with a few different color watch bands, penny loafers, and a handful of oxford shirts then you’ll quickly realize that you’re not going with the times but rather being timeless.
What do you think of preppy women? Are you married to a fellow prep?
Preppy women are the best! The preppier the better! I love reading Longwing’s Page where he finds pictures of preppies from the 70s and 80s who are straight out of TOPH.
And yes, I am married to a sweet preppy woman who dresses conservatively, adores pink and green, and loves LL Bean just as much as I do.
Harvard...hmmm..Are you smart?
I wouldn’t say that I’m wicked smart but I would say that I’m a very curious and passionate person. So when I find something that peaks my interest, it totally consumes me until I accomplish that goal. I have to do whatever it takes see it through. Going to Harvard was one of those goals that I couldn’t let go of. It also helps to have the woman that you want to marry already attending Harvard.

Love Story II
Happy WASP Wednesday!!
When selecting the proper mate there is only 1 thing to keep in mind. They PICK YOU! Yes, that is right, they select you. Each and every boyfriend I ever had liked me first. The other rule with love, it's like a dance. You take a step forward, they take a step back. Now, since Husband and I were set up the playing field was not level. But, I could tell Husband was into me as he displayed non stalkerish interest.
On our first date we conveniently passed by his apartment on the way to my car. I later learned we had gone out of the way. To "warm" up we entered so I could use the powder room. I noticed his apartment was super cool and clean (a complete lie normally). But a sign he was showing off, also he kissed me, another good sign-but I still got the heck out of there. Later, He called me and made plans to take me out, and not just to dinner or drinks. We went on hikes etc.
Right away I could tell Husband was the one. (not love at first sight, it took a few dates.) I established Husband went to Dickinson college. This is where my Father attended, and worshiping Daddy as I do this was a great sign for Husband. They were in different fraternities but I was willing to overlook that since they were from different generations. Also, he skied-a prerequisite in our family.
At this post I want to give my top places to find a man. I do want to mention that I believe in Eharmony. My bestie Mimi met an amazing man that way. Other places:
Alaska (in the summer). No, I'm not kidding. The ratio of men to women is like, 20:1
Charity committees & volunteerism. Men have jobs they have to promote themselves and network
Chamber of commerce networking events, crawling with men!
Sporting events
Sports bars
Golf course, and club house afterwards
Ski resorts
Home Depot or Lowes
Colorado
Nice restaurant bars (particularly after work)
Casinos, men go there in droves for bachelor parties on the weekends. The groom is taken, but not all the grooms men
I think you catch my drift, go where men hang out. And it isn't at the mall, or spa.
I hope you are enjoying what I "know," but please note: I "know" nothing.

Meet my make up consultant! Raychel Wade is a beauty and knows her stuff. Check her out at Cheek to Chic.
You are a make up consultant, give me an idea of what that is vs. a make up artist?
I AM A MAKEUP ARTIST FIRST AND FOREMOST, BUT WHEN I STARTED MY BUSINESS - CHEEK TO CHIC - AND I CAME UP WITH SERVICES THAT HELP EVERYDAY WOMEN WITH THEIR MAKEUP NEEDS , LIKE PERSONAL SHOPPING AND APPLICATION LESSONS, I REALIZED I WAS BEING MORE OF A CONSULTANT. SO REALLY, I'M BOTH!
Everyone dislikes something on their face. Mine is the circles around my eyes. What are you top tips?
FOR DARK CIRCLES, YOU WANT TO START WITH A GOOD EYE CREAM THAT CONTAINS VITAMIN K. NEXT LOOK FOR A GREAT CONCEALER THAT HAS GOOD COVERAGE. I LOVE BOBBI BROWN'S CREAMY CONCEALER AND THE CONCEALER STICK BY CLE DE PEAU-- A LITTLE PRICEY BUT TOTALLY WORTH IT.
I hardly wear much but lip gloss, give me an idea of what I could do in under 5 minutes to look fresher?
PEOPLE THINK THAT YOU NEED A LOT OF MAKEUP, WHEN In FACt JUST A FEW KEY ITEMS CAN MAKE WOMEN LOOK RESTED AND BEAUTIFUL. IF YOU ONLY HAVE FIVE MINUTES I WOULD DO THE FOLLOWING: CURL YOUR LASHES, MASCARA (LOTS OF IT), CONCEALER, BRONZER, A BRIGHT PINK BLUSH AND GLOSS.
What is a hot new product or trend in makeup?
PEOPLE ARE ALWAYS EXPERIMENTING WITH COLOR AND THERE ARE MORE AND MORE LINES BEING INTRODUCED THAT ARE GIVING MAC A RUN FOR THEIR MONEY. ALSO, EXPERIMENT WITH TEXTURE. TRY A CREAM BLUSH OR CREAM SHADOW AND LAYER IT WITH A POWER. THIS IS THE KEY TO HAVING YOUR MAKEUP LAST ALL DAY!

Being Beth Dunn Day #4
I did not get a picture yesterday but I promise I wore a skirt (orange boiled wool from Skirtin' around-my new fav store)
9:00 boys are off at school, time for a walk and returning phone calls
11:00 more breathing consultation, I'm getting better at it
12:00 Change purses as it is officially April (bright green apple bag from Kate Spade)
1:00 Spa (I caved, 2 anxiety attacks are exhausting). Got a massage and a mani & pedi-wearing like linen from essie
4:00 boys off for hair cuts with assistant
4:00 conference with celeb assistant, planning parties with Lilly Pulitzer for spring/summer-must secure champagne sponsor
4:30 conference with hollywood screen writer on SC the movie. Going to be so good! I am laughing already
6:00 when all else fails, cocktails!
Have brilliant idea to go from city to city in Lilly Pulitzer's jeep finding the SCs in each town. Throwing a Lilly Pulitzer party and picking out the mean girls-and fixing them! With aforementioned celeb. Do you think that would be a fun show?

WASP Wednesday!
Another cutie term I totally copied from Hopsy at Monograms and Manicures. I'm chronicalling another day in Being Beth Dunn.
Tuesday:
6:30 wake up and tie on my shape ups
8:00 Dress Wyn & drive Greye to school as he has band practice
9:00 write a blog and share on twitter and face book
10:00 after outfit planning and laying out a jewelry concept I meet with my assistant. We review The To Do List
10:30 work out and shower (I shave on Tuesdays)
11:00 session with my spiritual leader Anna Maria Prezio, brainstorm brilliant idea to continue stalking Nancy Meyers. SC will be a movie!
12:00 help others, never hesitate to ask!
1:00 finally eat as full blown anxiety attack has occurred
3:00 feeling better day goes as planned, forcing Greye off Wii to do math-no Lacrosse tonight
4:00 Plot monogramming take over with Hermes
Please note, in Being Beth Dunn chronicles I am not talking emotion. Just the basics. I have ups and downs like everyone else. Please don't take these blogs the wrong way. I don't just meet with an assistant and go get my nails done. I have issues like everyone else. This is mearly to entertain. I'm just glad this isn't a "therapy" week cause you might want to puke when you see how often I go to the doctor (a.k.a spa).

Fashion Friday!
Hello Preppies! I hope this blog finds everyone excited for their weekend. I know I am.
Last night I celebrated in pink at the kick off for the Shore Memorial Leaders Alliance 4th season. I'm proud to say I was one of the very first to sit on the executive committee and chaired the 1st gala. They raise money to support the new childrens wing. Husband and my babies were born in that beautiful hospital overlooking the ocean. I've taken a year off from "officially" being on any boards. I grew tired of doing a ton of work, for free and it some times not being appreciated. That does not mean I don't attend, donate or fund raise for charity in 2010, just won't sit on a committee. It's almost like the week I was not on the internet, or if I was told no more cocktail dresses-committee anonymous! I wore my new pink ring, with my Kate Spade dress.
We had a great party! What are your weekend plans?
xoxo

Happy Preppy Thursday!
SC has been sick. Yuck. Even with all of the vitamins and univera drinks I've had a horrible cold. Today is the big kick off for our local hospital at Harrah's pool in Atlantic City. To prepare I've decided to go to therapy (a.k.a the spa for a blow out, mani and facial).
Yesterday I went to The Pier in Atlantic city for some shopping and sushi! I think this ring will match fab with my Louboutin's.
My view from lunch was breathtaking! I interviewed Hermes again click here to read!

Happy Pink & Green St. Patrick's Day!!! Add the PM bumper sticker to your FB page HERE!!!
I hope this blog finds you all well and enjoying your day as I have a confession to make: I look horrible in green, as a matter of embarrassing fact, I look horrible in-gasp: headbands, pink and green. If I have a tan the latter work which is why I'm a Lilly Pulitzer girl mostly in the summer. I made an exception for today!
I'm not even Irish but I love my new Lilly Pulitzer like wine glasses! I've set super high goals for myself for summer '10
Yellow & Turquoise jewelry and wardrobe (again turquoise is not my color but I'm thinking the combo=cool)
Movie-but you all know about that goal
Will wear pinpaz.tively hot OPI nail polish (I usually wear coral)
I'm having issues with my front door and that of the beach house Husband is about to buy me, am I the only one? Not that I've ever noticed anyone else's front door but I'm a fanatic about them, and the wreath!
What are your summer 2010 goals?
xoxo

Happy Monogram Monday!
I hope this blog finds everyone enjoying Monogram March Madness Monday.
SC loves all thing pink and green and my bff Lisa politely supplies me with pink and green taffy for all of my events. It is so yummy I had to share my interview with her! Click here to see more
You've been called the taffy princess, how long has your family been making sweets? We have been confectioners for many generations. My german born great great grandfather and grandfather brought their candy making knowledge to the United States in the 1800's. They had Dairy Maid, a chocolate factory and retail outlet in the Germantown section of Philadelphia. My grandfather used to tell us stories of working with his father and grandfather on Christmas Day delivering sweets and ice cream molds to customers by horse and buggy. My grandfather and his three brothers bought the James' Salt Water Taffy in the 1940's. My father eventually took over and then acquired Fralinger's Salt Water Taffy in the 1990's and Bayard's Chocolates in 2004.
I know the answer but since I love it so much what is your most popular flavor? Chocolate, Chocolate, Chocolate! Then vanilla, strawberry and banana are all a close second.
We make custom pink and green taffy gift bags for all of my book clubs and preppy parties! Do you do similar items that are very user friendly as gifts of for events that I need to know about? Our customers are very creative with themed gift ideas. Our taffy can be purchased by your favorite flavor or color in our stores in bulk or ordered on line. Recently a bride took several pieces of taffy, placed them in an open shell and then wrapped it in netting for favors. They looked beautiful.
Taffy makes a great hostess gift and decor at a catered affair. Am I missing other ways to use it? You are correct; three years ago Redbook named our taffy as one of its "top hostess gifts." They can be great teacher gifts as well and are always appreciated at the holidays. Who doesn't want a little taste of summer in the winter?
Thank you Lisa!

Swell Socialites event!
Happy Fab Friday! I hope this blog finds everyone smashing.
We had a very successful Preppy Mafia launch party in Southern NJ yesterday-Socialites at the Shore. It was so fun, everyone got a PM bumper and stadium cup. Also Fralingers salt water taffy, Lilly Pulitzer pencil and tons of give aways. We received chair massages, compliments of Tranquil Touch (my therapist) and hand massages by Lynn at Party lite. The food, weather, and champagne were divine. And thank you for all of my Lilly Pulitzer hostess gifts!

Happy WASP Wednesday!
I don't have a picture as I'm all but spitting about this situation. BUT, let me first say--I've had the best few days. Philadelphia Film Office (a.k.a movie), Finding Skirtin Around (my new fav shop) and book clubs galore. I can even be skyped in-who knew. But I'm loving Monogram March. I'm just not into March Mean girls!!!!
SC/Mean Girls! Life Does not surpass 7th grade
I recently got a call from my friend Sally, regarding a situation of the tear inducing sort. Her young daughter has been subjected to her first dose of Mean Girls. But what bothers me more is how the Mother handled it!
Here's the situation: MM (Mean Mother's) daughter no longer wants to be public friends with Sally's daughter at school, only on the weekends. I"m not a psychologist so I cannot begin to analyze that. But MM's behavoir is what irked me. Her daughter is a permanent fixture at Sally's house, weekends, vacations-you name it. I've even met MM's daughter, that is how much she is there. Sally treats MM's daughter like her own, she'd do anything for her and has. When MM's daughter decided she no longer wanted the friendship what did MM do? What any MM mother would do-she called the school psychologist to get involved, not Sally. I'm being sarcastic here, wouldn't the appropriate thing be to call Sally? First, only if to give her a heads up. Nothing tramatic happened. Sally's daughter did not "do" anything. MM's daughter just decided she wanted to make new friends. What would you do? Am I off base here?
The story gets worse as poor, unsuspecting Sally's daughter gets called in and told she is no longer friends with MM's daughter. She was rightfully very hurt, not to mention she is a shy little girl with social anxiety (that the school and MM are fully aware). This situation could have been handled so much differently and it will never cease to amaze me how mean people can and will be

SC Guest Blogger!
Hello and Happy Tuesday. I love Summer is a VerbCLICK HERE , that is who I copied collars up from. Emjoy!

Why "summer is a verb?" I love the title, it says SO much with so few words. Something every writer from Truman Capote to little old me wishes they could do.

Why "summer is a verb?" I love the title, it says SO much with so few words. Something every writer from Truman Capote to little old me wishes they could do.I believe Ms. Birnbach said it best when she wrote, "The summer is the high point of the Prep year, the time when Prep blossoms into fullest flower, the point of reference for everything else in life. You choose your clothing, car, friends, pets, on the basis of where and how you summer." Yup, this lil floribunda is all about the ocean, the tan, the beached blond hair and theee best clothes of the entire year...
What are your favorite accessories for your stylish life?
What are your favorite accessories for your stylish life?
A fabulous white bikini, enough Lilly to fill a small museum, a haircut that does not require blow drying, good pearls, the ability to laugh at oneself, and a husband that puts up with and furnishes it all. That, and my Johnstons of Elgin blackwatch cashmere shawl and B² smoking jacket. Both of which I planned to be buried in...
Tell me about your fab life, what do you do besides go to the gym and watch Oprah (I'm also your stalker on twitter-LOL)?
Tell me about your fab life, what do you do besides go to the gym and watch Oprah (I'm also your stalker on twitter-LOL)?
The gym is très important for prancing around in the above mentioned white bikini and, Oprah is my workout for the soul. I usually try and time it so I'm at the gym during Oprah thus, killing two birds with one workout stone. Besides that I enjoy needlework, Diet Coke, gossiping while running distance, Lynard Skynard, chocolate anything, Vueve Cliquot Rosé, oyster roasts, foxes, and laughing til it hurts...
Do you consider yourself preppy? Did you read TOPH?
Do you consider yourself preppy? Did you read TOPH?
Ohhh, this prep's blood runs pink and green. And, not only did I read The Official Preppy Handbook but, I still have my original copy. My friend Joanie's sister-in-law helped write TOPH and is also the model throughout the 'Social Studies' chapter. I've been threatening to get her to sign my copy for years. Yup, it's definitely one of those items I would "save in the event of a fire".
What do you think about mean girls grown up and Social Climbers?
What do you think about mean girls grown up and Social Climbers?
Well, as a rehabbed mean girl, married to a rehabbed mean boy, I totally understand how they operate . You know, kind of like hiring an ex-burglar to consult on preventing break-ins? And, I think a little social climbing never hurt anyone. Unless, of course, you suddenly begin to act to the manor born or step on people during your accent. Karma doesn't discriminate between Loubs and Bean boots so tread lightly on your way up. Besides, it's waaay more fun to have your friends with you when you do reach the summit...

SC and The Bachelor?
After a much needed shopping spree at Lilly Pulitzer where I bought party favors for my party next week, a new dress, bikini and awesome sunglasses I headed to my book signing.
Botox, Bubbly and Books was tres fun! And guess who showed up!
And he proposed! The Bachelorette contestant from Summer '09-hottie Reid Rosenthal (don't get too excited he dates Miss USA and I'm already married).
I think he is rethinking his proposal after he saw the title of my novel. Thank you Dr. Farber!
XOXO
