I LOVE Lilly Pulitzer. They fund raise for so many worthy causes. Their main charity is Breast Cancer. Last night we had a preppy party for Team Challenge so of course, I was thrilled and honored to be asked to come sign copies of my novel.
The signature drink was The Pink Lilly--YUM! I picked out outfits (and birthday gifts for myself) for an upcoming photo shoot with a local magazine and met so many new friends.
Thank you Lilly Pulitzer for always making me smile!

Fashion Friday!
Hello Preppies! I hope this blog finds everyone excited for their weekend. I know I am.
Last night I celebrated in pink at the kick off for the Shore Memorial Leaders Alliance 4th season. I'm proud to say I was one of the very first to sit on the executive committee and chaired the 1st gala. They raise money to support the new childrens wing. Husband and my babies were born in that beautiful hospital overlooking the ocean. I've taken a year off from "officially" being on any boards. I grew tired of doing a ton of work, for free and it some times not being appreciated. That does not mean I don't attend, donate or fund raise for charity in 2010, just won't sit on a committee. It's almost like the week I was not on the internet, or if I was told no more cocktail dresses-committee anonymous! I wore my new pink ring, with my Kate Spade dress.
We had a great party! What are your weekend plans?
xoxo

Happy Pink & Green St. Patrick's Day!!! Add the PM bumper sticker to your FB page HERE!!!
I hope this blog finds you all well and enjoying your day as I have a confession to make: I look horrible in green, as a matter of embarrassing fact, I look horrible in-gasp: headbands, pink and green. If I have a tan the latter work which is why I'm a Lilly Pulitzer girl mostly in the summer. I made an exception for today!
I'm not even Irish but I love my new Lilly Pulitzer like wine glasses! I've set super high goals for myself for summer '10
Yellow & Turquoise jewelry and wardrobe (again turquoise is not my color but I'm thinking the combo=cool)
Movie-but you all know about that goal
Will wear pinpaz.tively hot OPI nail polish (I usually wear coral)
I'm having issues with my front door and that of the beach house Husband is about to buy me, am I the only one? Not that I've ever noticed anyone else's front door but I'm a fanatic about them, and the wreath!
What are your summer 2010 goals?

SC and The Bachelor?
After a much needed shopping spree at Lilly Pulitzer where I bought party favors for my party next week, a new dress, bikini and awesome sunglasses I headed to my book signing.
Botox, Bubbly and Books was tres fun! And guess who showed up!
And he proposed! The Bachelorette contestant from Summer '09-hottie Reid Rosenthal (don't get too excited he dates Miss USA and I'm already married).
I think he is rethinking his proposal after he saw the title of my novel. Thank you Dr. Farber!

Monogram March Madness
Hello Preppy Mafia! I'm having so much fun, I don't even have a guest blogger today. I've gone monogram mad, is there rehab for that? Between my cocktail dress habit and now I've literally monogrammed everyone in my path (dental hygienist, assistant, and yoga mat).
Such fun! Please be sure to share all of your monogramming stories with The Official Preppy Mafia. March is officially Monogramming March Madness.
As for mean girl-Main Line Scarlett. She first wrote a review of my novel, Social Climbers, on AmazonCLICK HERE!!!. Guess what, she hated it and is entitled to her opinion and probably right. I never said I could write, but I did it anyway. I believe in the 1st amendment. BUT, now she is commenting on my blog (not nicely) and anyone who wrote a positive review of SC. The good news is this, I know from my lovely readers not to feed the troll but I'm not going to put up with bullies, Amazon is about to block her. Everyone is entitled to their opinion BUT once again, you are not allowed to harass/stalk people who like the book, even if you don't. Thank you AMAZON! Main Line Scarlett, please feel free to share the link to your blog or book as I'd love to review your work.
Happy Monogram March!

Monogram Monday!
The Official Preppy Mafia site has launched. YEAH! CLICK HERE!!!!!
My weekend topped off Fab Feb. We had so much fun at Greye's birthday lunch. Sakuru cooked in front of us and the birthday boy even caught the food with his mouth (and so did little bear).
Enjoy The Preppy Mafia! I know I will. Please share all of your monogramming stories. I have a good one and I'll be back because The meanest girl in the world has been back full force not only leaving mean comments for me but now she is doing it to my supporters. Sorry ladies. Full panic attack mode, I need to expose her so I can block her from my life. I'm neither famous or successful-please leave me alone!

Q- I know I should wash my face before bed and wear SPF! What are your top tips to staying young and beautiful?
A- The reality is that you need a good skin care regimen, preferably one which is tailored for the individual. This may consist of not only of care of the facial skin, but other exposed sites such as the neck, chest, and backs of the hands. Each person’s skin is somewhat unique and would benefit from a routine that is both doable and personalized. It’s far easier to maintain healthy skin than try to rejuvenate damaged skin or skin that has been left unattended. The best and most basic tip for good skin care is to be educated on general cleansing and to be aware of the entire treatment armamentarium from tropicals to laser and light based treatments. A conversation with your health professional will show you the way to a beautiful, healthful glow.
Q - Besides your amazing new skin care line, what laser treatments will keep me youthful?
There are a variety of laser treatments, its not a one size fits all. An individualized laser therapy regimen focuses on the individual's needs. A variety of options exist for the treatment of dark spots, blotchy red spots, fine lines, etc.
Q- Do you have a list of super foods?
Most individuals are aware of their triggers, so that part is easy - the myths of super foods and bad foods can vary by individual. For instance, chocolate doesn't bother everyone, as opposed to popular belief, but it can bother certain forms of adult acne as can certain wines. Super foods selections are the same for healthy skin as they are for healthy bodies and fitness. Foods like fruits, vegetables, and water- lots of water. Hydrated skin is essential for a healthy glow.
Q- Are there exercises or products that don't cost a lot that work?
Most individuals can personalize a relatively inexpensive skin care regimen. A simple regimen and a few consistent steps will ensure a follow through in maintaining the regimen. You will be on the way to healthy and beautiful skin. People will notice there is something different about you-but only your doctor will know for sure....:)
Q- What other tricks do you suggest for keeping your skin looking fresh?
A- Take the few minutes each day to complete your cleansing and beautifying routine. It's simple, easy, and the results are easily noticed- almost instant gratification! Sleep- adequate sleep is as essential to the repair of skin cells as is water, nourishment and the cleansing routine.
Q- Do you offer facials?
A -Yes, we have an aesthetician on site. You can receive facials and cosmetic surgery, all in the same location. Our trained, caring staff of professionals will help you fit the time into your busy schedule. Patients have the added comfort level of knowing they are being cared for in the office of a medical professional.
Q-I sleep with humidifier and spray Borba water on my face, does this work?
A - Sleeping with a humidifier, hydrating by drinking lots of water is an important component in helping maintain and treat ones skin. Showing your skin a bit of tender loving care, in only minutes a day will result in a more beautiful and youthful looking you. The Farber Dermatology skin care product line has something for everyone. This, along with a routine regimen that can be personalized is the first step to better, healthier you.
Q- Tell my readers why you are the best dermatologist to Main Line Socialites?
The three A's : Able, Affable, and Accessible
How about the three S' words ?
A- Sexy skin expert! Satisfyingly experienced, (or satisfying experience) Scheduling ease!
Or
Three E's
Expert Esthetics, Easy to Reach, everyday appointments.
Q- What kind of Pores do I have?
A- Larger pores can be a problem, and we have a regimen for that- you want the pores to be like your back-something you are totally unaware of during your daily activities !

Happy Preppy Tuesday!
Hello!
The Official Preppy Mafia site is getting close to launching-yeah! Also, SC movie negotiations continue. I have NO clue what I'm doing so please pray for me.
I feel like I could post about Nicaragua all week. It was so beautiful. My Lilly Pulitzer wardrobe matched everything perfectly. No one spoke English so I'm now super fluent in Spanish, "Uno mas vino blanco por favor....gracias."
Besides yoga and surfing we also went sailing one day and caught tuna for a lunch, they grilled it for us on the beach.
View from the pool.
See! Even the beer matched my LP bathing suit.
XOXO

I LOVE Lilly Pulitzer, I know-not a news flash. But I do! The main character in SC wears Lilly Pulitzer from Memorial Day to Labor Day. So being invited to a behind the scenes tour at The Pink Palace was like, YES WHEN?!?
Thank you Lilly Pulitzer for hosting me and being the pink place that makes me smile every day. I'd paint the world pink and green if I could.
OK Ladies I got to see what they have in the works for future seasons-all I can say it you will LOVE it!
My birthday present!
Have a blessed and beautiful Preppy Fab Feb Day 5!

Fab Feb Preppy Day 4
SC has a special story today about ovarian cancer. I'm off to Creeds with Pippa for lunch and then my day at Lilly Pulitzer has finally arrived.
Please meet Sarah!
How can people make a difference?
Also, when you buy a product that’s painted pink, or teal, or yellow, and marketed as donating a portion of the profits/proceeds to cancer research, check and find out what amount of money is actually being donated. Many products donate very little actual money to charity, while reaping huge financial benefits by selling pink or teal products that appeal to buyers’ charitable sensibilities. Better to buy a good product and make the donation yourself.
Thank you Sarah! We love you and Stay Strong.
xoxo
SC
Please meet Sarah!
She has a pink and green preppy car. I've never seen her not smiling or welcoming. Her enthusiasm for life is contagious. To imagine her any other way or worse sick is not a pleasant thought. SC wanted to help, so I asked her some questions:
Tell me your story Sarah, how did you learn you had cancer?
I had two little boys, 3 ½ and 18 months, and I was tired. Really tired. Nap-every-afternoon-or-I-was-a-raging-lunatic tired. I thought it was just the kids, moving into a new house, busy life that was the problem. I was also having some pelvic pain with…um, marital relations, but that seemed to coincide with ovulation, so I thought maybe it was a functional cyst. The bloating was probably due to my exuberant consumption habits (birthday parties, Easter dinner/candy, etc.). There were logical conclusions for all of my (classic ovarian cancer) symptoms, and they kept me from seeing the overall pattern.
My OB/Gyn lives around the corner from me, and walks her dog past my house every day. One morning she stopped to chat with my husband and he told her about my pelvic symptoms. She said I should make an appointment for an ultrasound and an exam. The ultrasound was inconclusive, but the doctor and her NP were both able to feel the growth on my left ovary, both internally and externally (!). She suggested that maybe it was a cyst, and we scheduled a laparoscopic procedure to remove it. The chance of it being cancerous seemed so remote as to be a joke, and I treated it as such.
The blood test for ovarian cancer, called a CA-125, showed that I had elevated antigen levels, but with the normal ranging from 12-35, my level was at 133 – not a shocking number, as most cancerous patients have readings in the thousands. There are so many false positives for this test: menstruation, ovulation, endometriosis, pregnancy… it could have been not-cancer. However, I asked my parents to cancel their planned trip to the canals of France so they could be at my house for my surgery… just in case.
The operation took six hours – clearly not a simple cyst. The tumors had spread all around my abdomen, including on my diaphragm and colon. Chemo followed the surgery, and after five months I was in remission. I had nine months of “real life” before my first recurrence. (Once cancer has spread outside the ovaries, recurrence after remission is practically guaranteed.) I’m on recurrence number two now, and fighting successfully.
What is something most people don't know about living with cancer? Treatments, healing and all things symptom?
What is something most people don't know about living with cancer? Treatments, healing and all things symptom?
For me, living my life as normally as possible is job #1 – keeping my boys on an even keel and maintaining a stable family life is my raison d’ĂȘtre. Baldness was the tell-tale that I wasn’t as healthy as I should be, so I made sure that my wig was FABULOUS, my make-up done, and my outfit cute, and most people couldn’t tell that I was sick at all. I think most women, while they’re glad of help when they need it, are used to taking care of others and want to make sure that everyone’s fine, including themselves. Offer to help a cancer patient, weed her flowerbed, bring her dinner, but understand if she wants to fold her own laundry – it’s a self-reliance thing, and a self-esteem booster that you’re still who you were before you got sick.
Also, as we go through treatment, there are some days that we feel horrible, and want to lie in bed, and some days when we feel nearly human and want to go out! If you call a friend and she says she doesn’t want to see you, try again a week later – she may be dying to dress up and go out to lunch and feel normal.
If you could tell women of the world what to do about getting tested/treated or a must-not-ignore warning sign what would it be?

Listen to your body. If something doesn’t feel right, chances are you‘ll know before your doctor will. Don’t explain away symptoms or tell yourself that you’ll wait until your next scheduled checkup to ask your doctor what’s going on. Ovarian cancer is much more survivable if it’s caught in the early stages. Also, if you see one doctor and you don’t feel that you’re getting the serious attention you deserve, or the doctor tells you you’re stressed out and prescribes an antacid and a sleeping aid and sends you on your way, get a second opinion. Get a third opinion. Don’t stop asking questions until you’re satisfied with the answer. I was young, fit, healthy and active, and with no family history of cancer of any kind. It can happen to anyone.
Did I leave anything out that should be covered?

How can people make a difference?
It’s not politically correct to talk about, but most cancer patients, even some breast cancer patients, are sick of October and pink ribbons. While breast cancer affects an enormous number of women and men each year, it is, for the majority of patients, survivable, and all the focus on pink detracts from the attention, press, donations and research funding that are desperately needed for ALL forms of cancer, especially those that are much more deadly: lung, pancreatic, ovarian, leukemia, etc. Please consider donating to a number of cancer causes, or to a general cancer-research facility that will allocate the funds across many diseases.
Thank you Sarah! We love you and Stay Strong.
xoxo

This is going to be my Preppy week!
Hello and happy Monday.
After the pst two weeks full of drama I'm claiming February as my Fab Feb. This is going to be my month.
Before I share all the glory that was Carson and The Miss'd America Pageant--I have a fun filled week. Tuesday I'm going to the new Barney's with my gbff. Wednesday I'm having a ladies lunch and Thursday is The Day, the behind the scenes tour/interview and test drive of Lilly Pulitzer's golf cart.
Last night was amazing! SC will do anything for charity, naturally this benefits the Gay & Lesbians. SC loves the gay and lesbian community! The party was to die for fun and sadly Carson was on stage the entire night, I did not meet him. I was too tired to attend the after party. But I had a ball!
