Socialite Sunday!

Hello and Happy Socialite Sunday.

I don't enjoy Potty Talk but...

I LOVE my new wallpaper. It is hard to see but it is the same toile pattern as the entrance hall just in a lighter tone on tone shade.  I have a fun story to share. First I'm so excited! I'm having dinner with Carson Kressley from Queer Eye at Boardwalk hall tonight for the Missed America Pagent.
I used to live on The Main Line, a cluster of suburbs outside of Philadelphia. I guess I had a bit of a lock jaw. When Hermes first called me, to introduce herself as my roomate she called me Elizabeth. In an effort to correct her, I explained she could call me "Beth," which is the only name I've ever answered to (except now I'm BUT MOMMIE). Hermes, confused at my accent said, "What? I can call you back? OK, I'll call you back." Beginning to laugh I stated, "No, you can call me Beth!" Hermes was like, "huh? Back, Bath, what?" Dying of laughter I said, "my name is BETH!" She's like, "whatever bath tub, I'll call you back." Now everyone from Lake Forest College calls me BAUTH!

You Know You've Made it When You're being sued

I've discovered a new breed of SC-mean men. I told you all about the mean girl emailing me. Well know said mean girl's husband is after me (please note: I know these people and thought they were friends of mine. I emailed her to invite her to socialites at the shore and she hated on me instead).

During my morning board meeting with Hermes (where she rides her exercise bike and bosses me around read: tells me what to do and asks for compensation), I received an email  of the most uncomfortable kind. I went white, started trembling and felt stomach flu symptoms. He threatened to sue me over 1 line in my book (fiction novel) and 1 line in my blog!

Preppy people! I am trying to get by in this world the best I can dodging sociopaths and evil at every turn. I'm trying to spread preppy mafia love, and pink & green joy. I write to entertain, take our minds off the war etc.

Obama has international media and negative things said about him daily! It is called the 1st amendment-Freedom of Speech!

Get over yourself! Or I'll monogram you.
To feel better I went straight to TJ Maxx for pillow shopping and 2preppygirls.com for more monograms.

Roses are red
Violets are blue
You sue me?
My lawyer won't let you!

Never contact me again!

A few of my favorite Preppy Things!

Hello Preps! I hope this blog finds you all happy and smiling.

Yesterday was Husbands birthday. Let's put it this way, I ordered take out, his new monogrammed cooler did not arrive, and I had my assistant pick up his cake from the grocery store. The day ended with my beautiful 9 year old in tears and me giving it to the birthday boy (and not in a good way).

Today however, I want to share a few of my favorite preppy things!

My new WALLPAPER

I'm also wearing my new Kate Spade shoes, Tory Burch sweater and blouse from J. Crew.  The wallpaper will be displayed on an entirely other post as Barrie, my decorator, deserves better than this picture.

I've been wearing my sketcher shapes up shoes for 3 weeks officially. I think I found a new muscle in my bottom area-I'll keep you posted. Too soon to tell.

However, I've also been drinking MONA-VIE for 3 weeks and let me tell you this stuff works! click here to learn more about it. I need less sleep, I look better in the morning (less scary), and have more energy.

Lunch meeting today at Starbucks, excited to see if they've launched any new fun drinks! Let me know what I should get.

One week from today I am getting a behind the scenes tour of Lilly Pulitzer. I am SO EXCITED! I'm pink and green with what to wear. I promise to take pictures and plan to test drive the golf cart as that is what I've asked for as my birthday present. My son even wants it and he is allergic to pink.

For my party in March I'll be ordering pink and green cupcakes from Philly Cupcake! check them out!

Love you all!

A PR professional needs to be composed at all times, even during times of temptation:-)"

Who were you most star struck by?

"David Bowie, a true legend and innovator. He is genius on many levels and always gracious."

Preppy Guest Blogger

Happy Monday! I'm so back to being sick of myself so today I have a special treat for all you lovely preppies. Meet James of http://manofthe50s.blogspot.com/ He is one of my favorite preppy men blogs. And you'll adore him too!

Please know I'm training a new assistant. I read each and every one of your comments. If I don't comment back please don't think I'm not reading all of your adorable preppy blogs. I am, I'm just a bit overwhelmed in SC's recent demand. I promise I'll be comment queen again soon as I love to share the preppy love!

Where did you grow up and what is your occupation? (if you don't mind)
"I was an Army brat. When we weren't in Europe we were in the Deep South. When I finished High School I came north for college. Married a Yankee, became a government bureaucrat and retired last year.So I term myself as a Professional Layabout these days."

When did you first notice or begin liking style and clothes?
"I was always around conservative men growing up and followed their style of dress.I knew some real hard core WASPs and I guess you'd call my style as a teenager "preppy ", but it really wasn't referred to as such back in the day.I have always felt your clothes speak volumes about you. I'm no fashion plate, I just favor traditional and conservative. Except for the bow ties of course!"

What made you write a blog?
"In my first post I wrote that I hoped no one ever read it, I was just venting into cyberspace. Now I happily realize that the world still has people of style, grace and dignity. People who are hard working, honest individuals trying to remain true to their values. I'm so thrilled that someone did read my silliness!"

Isn't he divine? SC loves reading his blog. I adore him!

Happy Socialite Sunday!

Hello Preppy!

January is a big month in my family as it is EVERYONE's birthday. Today we celebrated my PopPop's 95th birthday. Husband and PopPop share the same birthday and are both left handed. My PopPop is very important to me as he was the first, and may still be, the first person in my family to believe in me when I began writing Social Climbers, my novel. Thank you and love you PopPop!

I'm wearing my new CK Bradely dress that I copied off Queen Bee Swain when she posted it, I promptly went and bought one for myself.

With my nana, my cousins are like sisters to me as I don't have one any more.

In my novel, Social Climbers, I thank my peeps:
Dedication
For myself, my family, friends and those I look forward to meeting
You can stand under my umbrella

Acknowledgements
To my very first editors: My stepmother Connie and Aunt Loretta,
thank you. To my Father whose idea this was in the first place, of
course. To my Mother, if you hadn’t put me in white glove dancing
class, etiquette school, debutante teas etc. I probably wouldn’t have
had anything to write about. For my Nana and PopPop, thank you
for believing in me. To my loving husband, Rick, who supported me
throughout our entire married life. Thank you for letting me explore
yet another of my whims. To my sons Greye and Wyn who push me
everyday to be a better person without even realizing it. For teaching
me who I want to be when I grow up, as we grow together. I hope you
love someday the way I love you little pieces of heaven on earth. You are
the loves of Mommies life!

Spoiled SC Socialite Saturday!

Hello Preppies!

I found the cutest store yesterday (after my facial at Origins, where I met new BFF Jenny)---NEVER TOO SPOILED! The name itself says it all. Lolly is the owner, OK preppy peeps, her name says it ALL too! Love it.

SC is spoiled. I grew up the youngest daughter (by 11 years) and literally thought I was named Elizabeth for Queen Elizabeth, I'm not kidding. Not even a little. But I eat humble pie. I learned, eventually, that life was not always going to be handed to me on a silver platter. I have to work.

With that said...I love to spoil myself now (you should see the 2 new dresses, pair of shoes, purse and wallet that arrived from Kate Spade yesterday).  I love candles and all things beautiful and yummy smelling. Lynn Bardowski at Party lite takes care of my little smell (I live with 3 boys) issues. Check her out HERE

I was once told I looked like JBKO, I know I don't so don't get upset. Then I was told I looked like her sister Lee-well that started my obsession with her.

Have a spoiled SC Socialite Saturday!

I may be Dunn but today I'm finally Finished!

Happy Preppy Friday.

Yesterday, obviously because of the mean girl, I had to take some personal time to unwind. I went to Rittenhouse Square for a mani (and chair massage while I was getting said mani), and met my bestie Kim for some wine and food at Smith & Wollensky inside the Rittenhouse Hotel. It did the trick!

Wearing my new Kate Spade dress and feeling the preppy love. Thank you for everyone's supportive and lovely comments. I have to share with you what Mrs. Snoots said to me, it is a quote from Dr. Seuss (my all time fav author) "The people that matter don't mind. The people who mind don't matter." After today I promise to learn to live up to this saying. You all touch me in so many lovely ways. Thank you!

So my final finished thoughts on mean girls:
The more people are talking about you, the more fabulous you are.
I know not everyone is going to like me or my novel Social Climbers.click here to purchase
BUT, I'm just doing my best in this world to get by, give back and live the glam life. All while trying to be a good mother, daughter, wife, and God lover.
Living well is the best revenge.
Obviously you are super sensitive and defensive to something you did that embarrassed you and your family. Don't take it out on me. Own your behavior. You were born an original, don't die a copy (stolen from my little sis QBS)

CAREFUL OR YOU'LL END UP IN MY NOVEL

Calling all Preppy people!

I have BIG news! Huge! I'm so excited to share but first, I have to get something off my chest.

SC doesn't enjoy confrontation, ( I don't know many people that do), with that said I've been accused A Lot! My fingers are trembling as I type this. Of writing my novel, Social Climbers, about other people. Social Climbers is a work of FICTION. To all of you Narcissistic, mean girls out there-I did not waste 6 years of my life writing a book about YOU! If you see yourself in the pages of my novel then maybe you are a mean girl and you should re think your behavior! Leave me alone. Stop sending me hate mail and leaving me mean comments. I don't have time for this. I'm trying to spread preppy love and acceptance and if you don't get that don't talk to me, look at me or read me. Got it?

Thank you for allowing me say that. My feelings have been hurt enough. I've drank enough wine to settle my brain over this. I'm DUNN!

Without further ado

Sorry about the picture quality! I'm terrible with computers etc.

I hope you love our new logo. Anyone who wants to write for our new magazine please let me know. This club is open to all kind people (you don't even have to like pink and green or Lilly Pulitzer to belong). But I will be announcing our officers shortly!

Have a Preppy day!

Delaware Blue Blazer! Preppy crush.

I heart Delaware Blue Blazer's blog. And I'm so sick of my SC self it's guest preppy blog day! Check him out herepreppy

How did you become interested in fashion and style?
My freshman year of high school was the first year I was allowed to decide for myself what to wear to school as long as it consisted of a blazer and tie.  This was when I first figured out I could wear colors other than navy and gray.  I started out simple enough playing with tie colors and some striped shirts.  As a matter of fact I think i stopped wearing white shirts all together in my sophomore year.

Was your father well dressed?
Yes, in Brooks Brothers for work and khakis and a polo for the weekend.

Who are your style icons?
Don't really have any, but when I was younger I always liked the way the extreme skier Glenn Plake looked!

What do you think of when you hear the word Preppy?

I always picture bright colors in a town down by the sea.

Isn't he preppy and dreamy. Sorry ladies, he's married.

Preppy Mafia has formed!

Hello and happy MLK Day! He changed the world that we live in for the better. Thank you MLK for having a dream and sharing it with us!

As you may know I have a klepto problem at restaurants. Well, my son has developed quite the sense of humor! Yesterday for Socialite Sunday we visited Philadelphia for the Home Show and lunch at the historic City Tavern.

While waiting for our food my son handed me the salt shaker, I declined as it wasn't that unique. Then he handed me a silver spoon, not really in need I declined but added, "I love these chairs, don't you think they'd look nice in our home?" Husband agreed so son commented, "I think you should take the chair!" Funny yes, but I don't think I could have gotten it out of the front door discretely. Look what is on their coffee table!

Then at The Philadelphia Home show, which was awesome (I finally got my cleaning lady a proper broom as she has been using the feather duster for years). Look at what the Gutter Guys were doing.....

There's the smart alec

So big news! The Preppy Mafia is being formed and we want all preps to join our sorority! Check out our fan page on Facebook-click on preppy mafia

Happy Socialite Saturday!

Hello Loves!

Before I get into my horse back riding and hang over I want to let you know I found a way to make a difference for HAITI! YEAH!
I ask that you make a donation to the Haitian Relief Effort. It is very easy, just
text the word "HAITI" to 90999 on your cell phone and $10.00 (for each text) will be billed
to your telephone account. The donations benefit the Red Cross International Relief Fund.

I did it and it totally worked! Even I can afford $10.00. So please see this as a way to give back, without spending a lot. Alternatively you can make a donation here

I horse back ride on Saturdays. But, I've never told you about the barn as it is a privately owned, lovely retreat that I'm not wanting to, but will share.

I read SC to them. and...

Ride them....and....

read to them some more

But really, The barn I go to click here, is simply the best! It is privately owned complete with champagne, horses, kind people, custom horse tiles, and lit candles. You can't drag me away!

Happy Preppy Friday!

I'm crazed with busy-ness (And I detest busy people as I'm usually bored) but little bear has a doctors appointment today and Friday's are usually my mani day while nanny waits on me. So this going to be a bit quick.

Bethany over at Maryland Pink and Green is officially my new BFF. She interviewed me and is giving away a signed copy of my novel, Social Climbers.  Click on preppy to learn more. I hope you win! If not, go to AMAZON to purchase a copy.

I promise to do good deeds for Haiti but I'm too sad to gather my thoughts just yet. Don't look unkindly on me-SC promises to get involved. My heart aches for them. Please pray.

Have a blessed and beautiful day!

Preppy in Philadelphia!

Hello and I hope this blog finds you all cheery in pink and green.
SC is just finished preparing my Socialites and Valentines Day notes for newspaper. Can't wait to share the article! I came up with truly brilliant gift ides.

Mainly I'm obsessed with my house right now. I've lived here for 8 years and it's time to do some redecorating! So I called my long time friend Barrie Spang over in Cleveland as I only trust her to pick out my wall paper. What do you think?

I don't know the brand but Barrie knows I'm obsessed with Scalamandre. It's a preppy toile with a beach home twist, since I live at the shore. BOATS! I'm going to do the entrance in the yellow and the neutral one in my powder room. Do you love? Then I'm going to have A Socialites at the shore ladies who lunch party. I'm so excited. Happy 1/2 birthday to moi!

The Philadelphia Home Show is in town this weekend. And I'll be visiting the ever so glam gutter guys (we have gutter and roof issues, I know not as fun as wallpaper but still a must). You can check them out here click

SC in Zimbabwe

Many years ago I was a student at Lake Forest College and a Sociology and Anthropology Major. I desperately wanted to study abroad as most of LFC goes abroad their Junior year. I had been to Europe as a high school student and knew I was going back after college with friends. Wanting to do something a bit unique I looked into India, and Africa. The University of Zimbabwe in Harare was the only program that would count credits towards my major so I could graduate on time. But, there is always a but, I did not have what one would refer to as a strong GPA. My only back up was to attend Franklin college in Switzerland and cross my fingers I could take classes that would allow me to graduate in 4 years. As much as I loved college, I didn't want to be left behind when my friends and classmates graduated. I was never a student. I went to college to be in a sorority, meet my husband and travel abroad Junior year. I accomplished 2 out of 3.

I was accepted last minute and I'm not going to tell you my theory as to why but let's just say I was the ONLY person on the trip that didn't receive financial aid.

Zimbabwe, and South Africa changed my life. I don't talk about it much. But with you supportive blends I feel comfy opening a part of my heart that is still vulnerable and in awe of the beauty I witnessed in Africa. Everyone on the trip wore Birkenstock. I wore Laura Ashley. Most of the students were very environmentally aware and PC. I was a debutante that read the society section from my home town paper my mother mailed to me each week. But, and there is always a but, we all hit it off. I made amazing friends and grew so much as a person. I could write an entire blog chronically all of the amazing things I did and saw. I pushed myself more than I have probably ever in my life, with the exception of being a mother.

I have tears in my eyes as I type this. Thank you Zimbabwe for allowing me to live in your country for 6 blissful months.  In an effort to hold on to some of my memories I decorated my oldest sons nursery with a safari theme. My son is turning 10 in only a few short weeks and I've promised him a big boy room with a ski theme. So it won't be long that he will not live in the dream world I created for him using my memories of Africa.

When I left Zimbabwe I flew to London with my 2 best friends from the trip-Katya and Mariya. In London I went to my gate to fly home to Philadelphia. I cried the whole time in the waiting room. The first big girl tears I'd ever shed. I watched a remake of Father of the Bride by Nancy Meyers on the Virgin Atlantic flight home. This is why I'm convinced she will make Social Climbers into a movie. Plus, it doesn't hurt that she grew up outside of Philadelphia. Thank you for all of the lovely comments you leave on my blog. I live for and can't wait to read each and everyone of them. The love that has been shown to me in the blog world resembles the love I felt in Zimbabwe.

SC Does SOHO

Happy Socialite Sunday!

I'm pink and green with happiness. I had the BEST time in New York City. It is just what the doctor ordered-and I didn't even realize I needed it until I was in the car driving, belting out songs in my monogrammed car.

I FINALLY visited the Lilly Pulitzer store on Madison. Ladies it is TOPS. Over the top, TOPS. I was in Lilly heaven.

I must find formal to wear this, To Die For dress!

We went to:Tanuki Tavern for sushi-it's in the Gansevoort
Breslin Bar, Ace hotel (I had a tequila shot, what am I? In college?)
Standard for champagne-hair of the dog is the saying I believe

So fun!

I'm not really a superficial SC

Happy Preppy Friday. I'm going to NYC tomorrow and can't wait!

SC is really all about charity work, and having fun in the process. I'm officially not on any boards for 2010. I got burned out. I need a year to just be a guest not on the committee working. Plus, I really want to try to finish my next novel and raise money for a Foundation I've started. Don't forget I'm willing to donate books and lend support-I just donated to The Junior League in Philadelphia. But I'm getting off topic.

Entertaining House has a SIL who is losing her battle with Ovarian Cancer. Ladies this affects us in a silent deadly way. So I want to share some of her blog with you. Please find the entire post here Click here

Ovarian Cancer Risk Factors:

Studies have found the following risk factors for ovarian cancer:
Family history of cancer: Women who have a mother, daughter, or sister with ovarian cancer have an increased risk of the disease. Also, women with a family history of cancer of the breast, uterus, colon, or rectum may also have an increased risk of ovarian cancer.
Personal history of cancer: Women who have had cancer of the breast, uterus, colon, or rectum have a higher risk of ovarian cancer.
Age over 55: Most women are over age 55 when diagnosed with ovarian cancer
Never pregnant: Older women who have never been pregnant have an increased risk of ovarian cancer.
Health and lifestyle: Ovarian cancer is more prevalent in North American and European white Caucasian females because their diets are higher in animal fats.
Likewise being overweight and obesity are contributing factors.

The Following are Ovarian Cancer Symptoms:
<!----------------------->
Early ovarian cancer may not cause obvious symptoms. But, as the cancer grows, symptoms may include:

  • Pressure or pain in the abdomen, pelvis, back, or legs
  • A swollen or bloated abdomen
  • Nausea, indigestion, gas, constipation, or diarrhea
  • Feeling very tired all the time
Less common symptoms include:
  • Shortness of breath
  • Feeling the need to urinate often
  • Unusual vaginal bleeding (heavy periods, or bleeding after menopause)
Most often these symptoms are not due to cancer, but only a doctor can tell for sure. Any woman with these symptoms should tell her doctor.

On a much lighter note: I'm going to see It's Complicated tonight with Husband and our friends. Nancy Meyer is my new BFF-she just doesn't know it yet!

SC Skincare

Happy Preppy Day!

Please don't think I'm a total narcissist but I've been talking to a lot of blends about skincare and with this COLD weather I've seen some posts about it. Plus, SC is very vain and takes painstaking steps to care for her aging skin.

KIDDING! Beer is not my trick (however I do drink wine so prevention is key here)
OK, well I'd just come off the rainy slopes, but it's 5:00 somewhere, right?
In celebration of the fact that I'm about to completely change my regime for 2010 I'd thought I'd answer the question I was asked, "what do you do for your skin?" I hope you are ready for this..

1st I drink Votre Vu snap dragon (collagen in a bottle), tons of water (with cucumbers as I get sick of plain water), & Green tea (anti oxidants)
2nd I sleep with a humidifier literally pumping humid air/water onto my face (promise you'll still like me when this post is over?) Plus, I sleep A LOT.
3rd. If I can't ski to give me a healthy glow I do yoga or go for a brisk walk
4th I'll start when I first wake up cause this even freaks me out:
(after brushing my teeth-a whole other post trust me is my teeth regime) I tone with rose water, apply lumene eye cream and burts bees radiance lotion with spf 15-so I have sun protection for said walk or at least trip to bus stop before I actually wash it
If I'm puffy from salt (or whatever) I put cucumber eye pads on my eyes (which I refrigerate) while my tea water is boiling

In the shower I wash with skincueticals glycolic wash
skincuetical toner
vitamin c serum-let it dry
phyto serum-let it dry
Metro gel (for rosacia)
firming skin cream and eye cream
SPF 30 (all products are skin ceuticals so I'm going to stop saying it)
Throughout the day I spritz my face with borba skin spray to refresh
I don't wear make up-except the occasional bronzer, mascara and eyeliner for a party or photo shoot
I get facials ALL the time and see a derm (but after 2 botox injections I don't do that any more)
2x a week I apply a mask(Borghese mud, Skincuetical mud, Lanonlin Agg Tval egg whites or a moisture mask). Wednesday's I do a mini spa day in the shower, Sunday a full one in the bath-again a whole other post for this ritual
I take Juice Plus vitamins and have taken omega 3s

Nights
wash with exfoliating wash and dry with rough wash cloth
Tone
exfoliating serum
B5 hydrating serum
Pigment Regulator
Finacea (for rosacia)
Night Cream (called A.G.E) and matching eye cream
Dermalogica multivitamin power firm on my lips

On lips throughout the day: blistex deep renewal (Q10), Murad energizing pomegranate, or Nivea rejuvenation Q10-several times a day

I'm sure I'm forgetting something but I hope we are all still friends now that you know how truly vain I am-I wasn't kidding! Tell me if you have any tricks. I'll be sure to add it. As you can tell I make plenty of time to take care of my face. Wait till I tell you the rest of what I do for my entire body!!!

PS Please don't tell husband as he'll start doing the math and realize all the boats he could buy!

Surfing SC Style

Good Morning!

SC gets very stressed when January hits. It is cold here, and I feel tremendous pressure to preform-what I don't know. But the new year combined with the dreary weather put SC in a very bad mood.

In anticipation of scary dry skin, blah complexion with matching outlook on life I planned ahead this year and booked a trip to Nicaragua for a surfing and yoga retreat (The only NY resolution I can semi cross of my list) click here

Vajrasol travel puts together the trip. It is February 14th-Feb 20th. It includes dinners, spa appointments at a beautiful resort. To learn more about it or sign up (they still have plenty of room but close the trip 1-10-10) click here

Have you ever wanted to learn how to surf or do yoga? Do you need an escape? My girlfriend went last year and said it was amazing. Please join me! I'd love to surf with some of my Blends!

Socialite Sunday!

2010 has taken off- I'm still standing. I have to copy off another blogger and recap the decade.
1st I want to mention that all of those "resolutions" I made have been replaced with: Husbands BFF and the best man in our wedding's swearing in to some sort of elected judgeship tomorrow, laundry, unpacking, returning gifts, doctors appointments to be made/attended. So.... it will be 2011 when I try Zumba but alas what a decade I've had. And it wasn't until today that I realized an era has passed. So I must:

2000- I gave birth to my first son, which my Mother reminds me (all the time), I said would be the one an only.
2001- I'm pretty sure I was having a nervous breakdown from said son
2002- Passed my 30th birthday with flying colors and went back to work-live for Nanny! Oh yes, and bought a big house with huge heating bills and a money pit in back yard a.k.a POOL
2003- Lost job, took another in PR and received free facials. Husband and I graduated from therapy and started to get happy again.
2004- My sister died
2005- Gave birth to 2nd son I swore I'd never have
2006- Left job as PR consultant to finish novel
2007- Learned to surf, wrote, and spent a lot of money I was no longer making
2008- Much of the same
2009- Social Climbers was published, spent most of the year doing PR/book signings and then near nervous exhaustion decided to blog about it and go back to being a Mother
2010- New Years resolutions in tact- will continue to try to be a good person/mother/wife and go to the spa as much as possible on my dime-not Husbands.

I like this pic cause it shows that I have blue eyes. Most ppl think I have brown. PS Husband is so much cuter than this.

Happy, happy Preppy New Year!!!

I'm back from skiing in Stratton.

We had a blast. Before I go into all of that I need to announce my winner of the preppy mafia give away. Congratulations to Green Girl in Wisconsin!!!! Email me your address and The Preppy Princess and I will mail you all of your goodies.

I took an internet vacation for a whole week. I only checked my email 3 times, and that was just to erase all the junk email. WOW! I can't believe I made it.

Hope everyone had a blessed and beautiful holiday! Now off to Prepp-i-fy the world in 2010.
What did you do for the break?
